Description
Re-signed Monahan at what I believe would be the maximum he could get in free agency. If that's a price Kent Hughes is willing to pay is a different story. But Habs will obviously have the cap space.

I believe Dvorak will be traded in the offseason. With only 1 year left on his deal at that point, and the salary cap going up. There should be a taker.

With the arrival of Hutson (at the end of the 2023-24 season) and Reinbacher. The logjam is too great on defense. Habs will have to decide on either Xhekaj or Harris and will opt to move Harris due to him being too similar to other defensemen in their system. Xhekaj adds a different element if needed.
As much as I'd like to see both Hutson and Reinbacher on the same pairing. I opted to split them. Having two rookie D paired together didn't seem wise.

I have Roy and Beck making the team. Definitely not unreasonable to think they would be close to locks on the team. Especially in Roy's case.

Signed both Barron and Xhekaj to bridge deals. but obviously the Habs will have the cap for long term extensions if they are ready to commit.

During the season, Habs will have their trade block include Savard (to make room for Xhekaj, Mailloux, or Kovacevic), Anderson (to make room for Heineman or Ylonen), and Evans (to move Dach back at C).

Free agent targets: NONE! Habs still rebuilding. If anything, Habs might try to address goaltending if Allen and Montembeault still can't be relied upon. An Interesting idea would be to see if Marc-Andre Fleury would sign a one year deal. Habs could go out and acquire a young goalie like Askarov or Knight (just spit balling) and have them paired with Fleury?

As a BU fan and someone who was incredibly high on Reinbacher, i have some input

Hutson needs to start in Laval. Play him top pair with PP and get him to learn pro hockey for 40 or so games. No matter what, even if he dominates. He needs to be eased into it.

Reinbacher is a pro. He knows what he is doing, and I am confident he will be a great top pair one day. But id play him with Matheson. Matheson is better and has way more expirience than Guhle, and I just see their games working very well together. idk how that works out with chemistry, especially once Hutson gets called up. Reinbacher could also start in Laval and be eased into it but I think he is NHL ready. But I think he needs to start with a good veteran on his pair

      Just my two cents tho

Hutson hasn't played all that well against top tier college programs like Quinnipac, Michigan, Minnesota and even the US development team. I don't think he'll be ready for NHL comp next year

100% right Harris/Dvo/Savard (and Kova) will be traded away. Focus should be to get a young left handed center.

When the roster is cleared, I see the defence as

      Mathy-Reinbaher
      Ghule-Barron (team canada duo)
      Xhekaj-Mailloux

Hutson taking the subway back to MTL if Mathy gets injured to run the PP.

I agree with Kyle_Okposo_Lover, Reinbacher is already a pro and I see no reason to send him to Laval starting next season. As for who he plays with. I would argue Guhle is already better defensively than Matheson, and it wouldn't surprise me by this season's end he'll be as good if not better offensively than Matheson. Guhle is the real deal, he just has to stay healthy. but obviously chemistry will be the driving factor for sure.

As for Hutson, you may be right. but we might have the answer by the time this season is over, no need to wait until next year. 90% Hutson will be signing with the Habs at the end of this college season, and he'll most likely get a small taste of NHL hockey this season.
Hutson is the most interesting prospect in all of hockey (not exaggerating) aside from maybe Michkov. I don't see any situation where he becomes an average NHLer. It'll either be he's the next Adam Fox, or the next Victor Mete... I don't see an inbetween lol
