Alright before I get flamed, I'll just admit this is extremely unrealistic and blah blah blah
Anyway... The Oilers suck, and if they continue to suck you have to wonder if this team needs a change more than just around the edges. Draisatl's deal is up in 2 years, and if the team is bad there is no good reason to bring him back on a deal 5 million dollars more expensive than his last and expect to win more. Why not trade him for incredible value and build around depth and cap space AND McDavid. Value-wise, I feel the Canes have some of the most to offer of any other team, and they would be instant cup favourites after this trade despite losing some big pieces. Necas has superstar potential and Pesce is an extremely solid top 4 D, they both need new deals but are great assets. Nikishin is one of the best players outside of the NHL right now, and a potential instant stud on defence once he comes over. You also get a late first and early second. Now the Oilers will have significant cap space to work with in free agency to use on forward or defence (Stamkos, Nylander, Reinhart, Guentzel, Lindholm, Eberle, Hanifin Montour all come to mind as great options), great assests to trade or to build out their prospect pool, and still a very competitive team capable of making the playoffs. Flip Ceci for a cheaper, more defensive minded guy, trade Foegele and Janmark for whatever, and use some picks to acquire depth off rebuilding teams and voila, a new and improved Oilers.
