Description

Cost is high but Hanifin would be an ideal stabilizer for the Arizona defense and a good guy to stick with for the next few years during the rise. Soderstrom needs a place where he can expand, and Calgary will need additional defensive depth and contract-controlled guys.

Kaapo Kakko is an interesting guy that is falling out with NYR. He is not the player that NYR wanted and is being ill used in their system. Kakko is a really interesting guy that can go net front and is defensively responsible. A guy like that could be the key to let Cooley cook.
Travis Boyd is a role player but can play at pace and has enough of an edge that NYR would be able to use him up and down their lineup. The 2nd going back eases the pain of the lost draft expectations the NYR has had with Kakko.

Super interesting Hanifin trade. Calgary would probably push for the 2024 pick because they're likely trying to push a retool as quick as possible but there could always be conditions and protections on that. Fills a good hole in the Flames pipeline and opens up the possibility of a Tanev trade that much more. Hanifin's M-NTC would be the biggest point of contention here I think, I would guess that it's mostly filled with Canadian teams and is an 8 team no trade list so good chance it could go through.
