The fact that you have a roster of 22 with no cap space shows there is a cap issue, thought the cap might be higher by 1 or 2m, Not really taking account the bonuses that might be paid in 19/20 or the carryover bonuses from the previous year. I doubt if those bottom three centres are all good enough to be Leafs by 2019...Realistically the Leafs can't afford JVR. The Leafs should have wingers to take his place though maybe not as good certainly cheaper, Grundstrom, Johnson, Bracco are possibilities.

Not having enough space for a full roster is literally a cap crunch. Also to move Martin you're going to need to trade a higher pick than you are getting. martin and a 4th for a 7th.
