The Leafs would likely have to wait until Woll is off IR to make this trade, but once he is they should be okay with going with him and Jones for a little while at least and maybe trading for a goalie later on.

I was considering retaining salary on Samsonov to make this trade more appealing to Carolina. I'm just not sure if the Leafs would have the cap space for it

Additional Details:

Carolina gets a goalie who can play in a tandem with Kochetkov and clears Raanta's full cap hit. They also get a depth defender in Lagesson who won't be able to replace Pesce's spot on the blueline, but can at least provide a decent roster replacement.

Carolina has enough defenceman as is to make this trade, and I'm not sure if they will have the cap space to bring back Pesce next year, so I think they should consider this move.
