Description
There's an arguement that the team needs to fix their defense with their GA numbers but I think with a new structure there's a learning curve, the defense has gotten smaller every year (weight and strength wise not particularly height wise) but they can skate vs in previous iterations. Fleury in a short sample size is handling it better than Raddysh and Perbix right now imo but i think we can give these guys time vs if we had a more veteran defense it would be a lost cause. Getting a defenseman at the TDL that we can afford may not be as good as what some of these guys may turn into by the end of the year.
They handled Vegas and a streaking capitals recently, they're looking better every game I've watched. The bottom 6 is a little weird like Jeannot-Glendening-Eyissimont are great but Sheary-Motte-ABB is like kinda worrisome seems kinda small and i don't really know what the identity of that line is. Guys i'd be interested in plugging into that line are DIckinson, McCarron, Sundqvist more hard nose straight line guys so we can take ABB out.

If NSH is selling at the deadline, I'm sure you could get McCarron for less than this. A 4th-5th or a B prospect should do it.

we let up 4 goals vs Vegas, the reason we won wasnt because the defense is playing good and the caps are playing like the islanders so that wasnt a tough game for the defense. I will say I think that coaching has had more to do with the bad defense than the players however I think having another reliable defensemen would really benefit this team. Fleury has only played good for 3 games so im not sold on him yet especially since he wasnt playing that great in the AHL before he got called up and relying on players to play better down the stretch while adding a depth forward that will be playing 12 minutes a night instead of a defenseman that would be playing 18 is not the smartest move imo. I also think ABB has been progressing a lot actually, his offense has slowed down but his defense has really improved, especially blocking passing lanes and putting more effort on the forecheck and backcheck. Motte isnt producing points but is great defensively and on the forecheck and sheary was very bad before the injury but in his few games in return has looked a lot better. The only forward on this team that is a liability is Jeannot.

Yea definitely not where we want to be. Which defensemen do you think or want to get considering the cap and our price range. And which defenseman would you take out of the rotation? Yea its a small sample size but im blown away with fleury like his intangibles like size, skating, he hasn't made any glaring mistakes. He's a premium from the physical standpoint alone if he can put it together. Perbix on the other hand it always feels like he's getting jumped in his own end maybe pucks are getting dumped to his side a lot esp cause he's playing with hedman

I would be looking at guys like lyubushkin with double retention or seeler. They are not too expensive and very reliable defensively. I would look at rotating in and out perbix, fleury, raddysh, and dehaan depending on who is playing worst at that current moment. If we need to sergy can play the right side so it doesnt really matter if we pick up a RD or LD. Although before spending assets on a defensemen it would be worth trying out both Thompson and Lilleberg from syracuse because thompson is for sure making the team next year and lilleberg plays hard physical defensive hockey which is what this team needs right now.
