For everyone saying the Friedman rumor was him throwing darts hoping one would eventually land rather than actually doing investigative reporting, I think he's actually spot on in his claims, especially considering the way he framed it by saying that the Canes had internally discussed moving Bunting to make room for a goalie. I don't think they actively want to move Bunting nor do they want to make a move for a goalie but Raanta had been unplayable and forced their hand into a desperation move in order to salvage the season. Thankfully Kochetkov put the team on his back and the big dogs started generating offense at elite levels otherwise they likely would've pulled the trigger. In terms of the trade speculation, the only goalie with a high enough salary on the market that would require a further move would be Gibson. Because of the contract value and longevity the Canes would've likely been able to negotiate a lower return with Anaheim relative to what Anaheim fans likely would want and due to the fact that goalies don't always bring back the highest returns however the Canes would've still likely needed to move a 1st + so I'd imagine they would've rolled most if not all the assets garnered in a Bunting trade to acquire Gibson.
