Description
Demidov is very clearly the the 2nd best player in this upcoming draft. Russian factor is the only reason he wouldn't go #2. Hawks take him and possibly have the next Toews and Kane on their hands in Bedard and Demidov

This roster assumes no other draft picks aside from the Top 3 pick in 2024 makes the roster by this time

Isn’t Kantserov still under contract for 2 more years after this?

And we all know Davidson ain’t paying Drai. He’s gonna play moneyball and pick up someone like Jordan Eberle and pay him $6 AAV x2 years.

Drai will want a contender. Not play with bunch of rookies

^ ^ THIS ^ ^ For sure. I know people want KD to do it because they are impatient, but it's highly unlikely he does.

I don't think that is necessarily true. Players can see the potential of the rebuild, the opportunity to play with Bedard among other young and exciting players, the cap space, and the longevity of what CHI is building. If he wants to get paid, there aren't a lot of contenders that can accommodate him and also have an appealing long term window.

Get in on the ground floor of a rebuild vs getting a long term contract with a team that has a 1 to 3 year window and then projects to be mediocre for a long time... Personally, I'd be looking at the team just getting started and has cap space. But, I doubt KD would want to sign a giant contract like that anyway.

Oilers window is open for at least another 5 years.

Sort of. It's probably going to at least take a quick retool at some point to keep it open 5 or more years. Navigating around a buyout penalty for 6 years could definitely complicate things. Also, they could lose important players in the coming years if they continue to fall short in the playoffs. They also have next to nothing coming through the pipeline, unless a few unexpected player REALLY pop. We'll see. There are all sorts of things that could go wrong. But I think they have 1 to 3 years of truly being a top team and then a bunch of bubble years where things could go either way. I highly doubt they just keep doing what they are doing for 5 plus more years if they don't get a cup within the next couple years, though.
