Trades
ANA
  1. Barron, Justin [RFA Rights]
  2. Heineman, Emil
  3. Kidney, Riley
  4. 2024 1st round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
What the Ducks get:

Barron is a big body who has a transition game that is still developing. Fits in nicely as the #6 for now. Absolutely top 6 potential. He and Zelleweger (not that sold on Helleson), Mintyukov and Lecombe look to form ab excellent top 4 long term for the Ducks.

Heineman: maybe a little lighter than a typical Verbeek target, but definitely has the ability to be a top 6 winger. Scoring at a PPG rate with Laval, and got a cup of coffee. Ducks lack young wingers that can step in. Heineman can do that I think.

Kidney: if moving a C, getting a developing one back makes sense. Kidney has game. Tracking to be a 200 foot top 6 player.

WPG 1st: maybe later than some may want, buy it is a first rounder. The pick looking to be in the bottom 10 of the 1st round, the quality of kids offsets that.
MTL
  1. Zegras, Trevor
Additional Details:
For 2 years, Hughes has moved an acquired 1st for a C. I think he does it again. Plenty of quality assets to move.

Suzuki amd Zegras a 1A-1B I think is a place worth going

Realistically :

Justin Barron right now is an offensive bottom pairing dman who needs to work on puck retrieval & being more physical in boards battles. Definitely as the tools to be a top 4 defenseman, just need to put it all together. Still young, only 22 yo.

Emil Heineman is a big kid who’s got a great release and can lay the body. Bottom six potential, if he reaches it, he could be a 3rd liner.

Riley Kidney was a good playmaker in Junior, I always doubted his game wouldn’t translate well to the pros. I don’t think he has any potential to make it and his value is very low

A late 1st holds less value than people suggest

So all the assets above don’t come close to land a young top 6 players with 2 years left on a good contract while being RFA after his current deal

Guys some version of this trade has been made a million times. The Ducks pass easily, and I’m betting every dollar I have that’ll be a consensus from the ANA pov.

Zegras isn’t on the block, Lebrun made that abundantly clear

If you want our unavailable 22yo stud, we will demand a stud in return, not spare parts. Slaf, Rein, or the ‘24 MTL first are a necessity, or this is an incredibly easy decline. Not worth it to MTL? Awesome, we’re stoked to keep Zegras. We don’t post 20 ACGMs/day proposing Caufield for a bunch of mid tier prospects and late 1sts, neither should you
