Rationale for the lines

Eberle isn’t the first line RW option he once was, but he’d be a huge improvement over Lee, and it allows Brock to resume his role at C.

Engvall moves up to line 2 so the second line has at least some speed.

Lee Pageau and Holmstrom have been a line before, and they were decent together.

The new 4th line brings good defense and speed. Big improvement over having an aging Martin and Clutterbuck. They will be fine as bottom 6 fillers if an injury occurs.

The top 4 d pairs can rotate like they have been. But I like the idea of youth mixed with veterans.

The Schultz acquisition isn’t too serious. I’d like to have a 3rd RHD that’s not named Scott Mayfield. But I don’t hate Aho there. He’s filled in ok. But should the isles make the playoffs, Aho can’t make dumb mistakes.

The trades shouldn’t be too expensive. Maybe more or maybe less than I suggested. I think Eberle is certainly dealt, and Danfourth probably won’t, but I’d like for Lou to get a bottom 6 penalty killer.

Also a cheap option would be Duclair. Cheaper cap and probably would cost a mid round pick and Wahlstrom, so the isles could do that instead of Eberle.

I’d rather go after Duclair cause he’s played under Roy before and he wants more speed in the lineup. He could play on any line 1-3. I’m fine with Clutter on the 4th but as long as Martin isn’t playing it’s fine.

We've no real need or desire to move Danforth as he's one of those "plays the right way" types we want the kids learning from, so while this is fair value it's not something the Jackets are likely to be interested in doing. Especially since we just extended him another year.
