It's pure assumption that BOS would have moved DeBrusk.
That's a bad assumption too.
I doubt they would have moved him.
The appeal to the whole trade is PIT could have swallowed the cap.
Retained 3 mil on Guentzel, so VAN could retain 50% on Lindholm and then Pit retains another 50%. and BOS gets a center at 1.2 mil and can fit it under the cap much easier.
Bos would have probably paid Lysell to VAN, which is a fair ask. and a 1st to PIT for using up 2 retention slots and cap space to facilitate the deal.
I think the biggest problem with the whole thing is trading Lindholm is an admission of failure on VAN part and they don't want to go there.
As moving him is a sunken cost. Which they will swallow either way, as I don't see them resigning Lindholm.
