Description
Conroy has recently stated that the Flames "may" be active in free agency, as while he still wants to give the young guys shots for roster spots (hahaha), he wants the Flames to remain competitive. It has Murray Edwards demanding a playoff appearance written all over it. That said, Conroy opts for a few things.

First, he trades Vladar to Boston because Boston trades Ullmark, so Vladar goes back to his OG team to back up Swayman.

Second, he signs two UFAs. 31 year old Shayne Gostisbehere rides the third pairing with Brayden Pachal, switching out sometimes with Okhotiuk (or just going with 7D). Gostisbehere has great offensive numbers, and would be a perfect addition to the Flames' power play, and give them a puck mover to replace Hanifin in the short term. Ghost accepts Calgary on a one year deal because they offer him the dough other teams will not. He also signs 29 year old Stanley Cup winner William Carrier to a four year deal worth $2.25m per year. Affordable as the cap goes up, and certainly a welcome veteran leader of the type Conroy has stated he wants to add for the young guys to look up to in order to learn that "losing is not OK".

Pelletier and Coronato both start the season with the Wranglers, gaining more experience, size, strength and confidence. The Flames can decide what to do with Kuzmenko at the deadline, or prior, if one of those two guys forces their way into the top six in the NHL.

For UFAs, I also considered D-men Brady Skjei, Brenden Dillon and a return of Chris Tanev, and at forward I also considered Sam Reinhart, Jake DeBrusk, Daniel Sprong, Teddy Blueger, Jordan Martinook, Yakov Trenin, and a re-sign of A.J. Greer. I liked Carrier (character/grit) and Ghost (puck-moving/power play) for team needs with where they're at. Brady Skjei was very tempting, but 29 and likely seeking a long-term, lucrative career-closing contract.

The very last team that needs goalie.

They have 2 of the best goalies in AHL.

The just signed one of the best college goalies.

They have one of the best junior goalies.

Even if they needed a goalie, Vladar has been mediocre this year and his contract is not positive.

Wouldn’t take him for free, because there are better ways to spend money.

I assume if Calgary cut him, no one would claim him

Gotta think the Flames will spend to the cap like virtually all teams do. Spending it wisely is the key.
Probably some short term veterans most likely scenario.
