Most important part of this offseason is firing AV.

Hoping Kreider can fully recover by next season. If so that KZB line should be reunited. Buchnevich without a doubt deserves top line minutes. Zibanejad looked like a clear top line center when on his game.

Chytil should get top 6 minutes and with Hayes and Zuccarello he'll get a chance to play with players who are very skilled offensively but can also help cover up his deficiencies defensively early on.

3rd line is your go-to forecheck line. The line you go to after a goal for energy and great scoring chances. Miller is a borderline 2nd liner but I think is a better fit on the 3rd line and with Grabner's speed, there could be a lot of breakout chances. Andersson's two-way game complements both players and can help him develop without him having to be the main guy in either zone.

4th line might be my favorite. Letteiri should be here to stay. I like how Nieves has played, and don't see Desharnais re-signing, at least not for 4th line cheap. This is the 3rd line of 10 years ago. Fast, skilled, and defensively responsible. They won't be on the scoresheet every night but they'll get their chances. Letteiri and Fast are players that can play up or down a lineup depending on injuries.

I can't see McDonagh getting traded. I try to but can't see it until at least next deadline. Pionk played very well in preseason and I believe he'd play well with McDonagh.

Skjei and Shattenkirk worked together. Keeps Shattenkirk in top 4 where he should be and Skjei can help defensively.

Smith rebounds next season, hopefully enough to trade him without having to retain salary so NYR can re-sign McDonagh in offseason to big contract. DeAngelo gets sheltered minutes.

Really good stuff, especially explanation of lines. Hayes and Miller get a little bit more but not much. Also would maybe try to acquire better defenseman on the right side for one of their forwards. But also would not buy out staal just yet. Although he has not been great, I think rangers need to give it one more year before devoting 5 million of their cap space to buyouts. Staal knows he is not the same player and between that and his injuries, he might consider hanging them up soon. Another thing I would consider is resigning nash. Yes he is not the same player. But if they could bring him back for cheap on a short term deal, they can trade a different forward for a better righty defenseman. I wouldn't necessarily do it, but the right side at the moment is not plausible. Also, does Vesey just walk? He doesn't have the highest value but might as well get something at this stage.
Other thing with defense is bereglazov and graves should be ready for nhl if they're going to make the leap. In the case at least one of them is, trade Mcdonagh.

Good scenario though. If Rangers get smart enough to fire their coach and sell, they can take a step in the right direction.

Only thing I’ll add is, the Rangers can’t keep paying Dmen $6.5-$7M per year and expect a cup. A guy like Karrlson who will get $9-$12M a year, fine because he’s a top defenseman who also gets 70 points. A guy like McD has been hurt way too much. Hank makes $8.5M, Nash $7.8M will be off the books (even if re-signed, will be a lot less.) Rangers need a few wingers who are possible 70 point players. I’d trade McD to a team like Toronto making a playoff push for some youth maybe Marner or Nylander to help the re-build and give them room this summer for a key FA or 2.

Sadly leafs are in no need of Mcdonagh. They already have Gardiner and Rielly on the left side. And Nylander and Marner will require Rangers to give up too much. Winnipeg could be a good fit though. Having McD would make their defense arguably close to being as good as Nashvilles, with him, Byfuglien, and Trouba. In return they would probably get a first rounder and either a solid forward or prospects. But while leafs are not the greatest fit, other teams with cup hopes and defensive problems will definitely call.
