Description

In my opinion it's a perfect fit.

Brassard has some playoff experience and enough skill to turn our 3rd line into a scoring threat with the abundance of skilled wingers we have. It also bumps Copp-Lowry-Armia down on the depth chart to be a devastating 4th line that can kill penalties and is tough to play against for other teams top lines.

There are an infinite number of combinations for the top 9 depending on who is hot at the time. Brassard has another year of term and will come off the cap exactly when we will need to re-up Laine and Connor.

I know you want feedback from Ottawa fans but any trade involving the 2018 1st is a hard pass from me. We should under no circumstance be trading that pick, especially for someone that won't be on our top line.

On top of that his $5M salary is an issue next year. Little and Ehlers increases already absorb Toby's entire caphit. Then you need to do deals with Hellebuyck coming off a Vezina Candidate season, Morrissey, Trouba, Lowry, Armia, Tanev and Poolman.

Even if the cap goes to $80M you still need to factor in Laine's performance bonus as well as some space for Connor and Roslovic to hit some bonus money as well.

Bottom line for me is adding Brassard means someone else from the roster has to go or else you're not doing long term deals with critical pieces. You could potentially trade Brassard away in the offseason but he does have a NTC and it will leave us vulnerable to offer sheets.
