Description
Likely a waste of time, but I wanted to encourage people to have a more open (and realistic) view of Weber in relation to his contract. It's a little narrow minded to simply write it off as bad contract, and while there are legitimate concerns with any expensive, long term contracts, there are also a number of other considerations.
A good GM considers everything, not just the potential downsides.

Trades
1.
MTL
    Top pairing defenseman.
    Worth his contract.
    Comparable to Chara.
    ANA
    1. Years 1 to 4, W
    Additional Details:
Speed has never been a big part of his game. He's a beefy and heady player, with a booming point shot, and none of those qualities are going anywhere.
    2.
    MTL
Still a top pairing defenseman or at least a top 4 defenseman and power play point man.
Possibility of diminished returns in relation to cap hit.
      Actual salary is only $3M.
      ANA
      1. Year 5, Weber
      Additional Details:
Any team that is not tight against the cap ceiling, would still be willing to offer assets for a 2nd pairing, PP specialist.
Offers cash savings of about $2M versus actual salary for a typical 2nd pairing defenseman.
Still could be a top pairing contributor. (See Markov, Chara, etc.)
His main tools are still not diminished due to age.
      3.
      MTL
At least an NHL regular. Likely still a top 4 and PP option. Possibly still a top pairing option.
Valuable as a mentor. (Chara with Carlo and McAvoy, Markov with Subban, etc.)
Unique contract that offers ~$7M in cash savings per year, to any team looking to reach the cap floor. (That floor will be significantly higher at this point as well.) Still has trade value for that reason alone.
        ANA
        1. Year 6+, Weber
        Additional Details:
Many options to trade him at any time his cap hit becomes a liability.
        1. Over $20M in actual dollars saved, in the owner's pocket, over the last few years of the contract. That has value in trade.
        2. He retires. Free and clear of his cap hit.
        3. Nashville trades for him to delay his retirement and avoid cap recapture. The league will likely give Nashville an escape clause, but he will likely have to be on their roster and not another team's, before that relief is offered.
        4. Several standard options as a last resort. Including waivers, retention, paying to move him, LTIR, or simply having enough cap space that it doesn't impact your team (ie you are rebuilding), etc.

Probably will be a Hab for the rest of his career and I don't mind.. I don't want draft picks for him.. We fucked up trading Subban, now just keep Weber as a Leader of the group and a mentor to future Habs defencemans.

Weber for those of you who didnt watch any of the coverage during the trade
has a pre negotiated Recapture clause on his final 4 years stating if he does not play for
any reason from retirement to we bought him out then 6/7.8m cap falls on NSH

Meaning we could re-sign Subban UFA , Waive Weber and only take a 1.8m dollar cap hit

Yup. Nashville would be on the hook for a penalty of anywhere from $8M to $24M per season, depending on when he retires.

thanks, it has to be a retirement though eh! Didn't think he could be put on waivers and recapture apply. As a Habs fan i expect us to keep both Price and Weber for coming years, and I don;t think Tavares would sign here so we need to find other options
