So...

NYI gets: Karlsson, Carpenter

VGK gets: Ryan, 2018 2nd round pick, 2019 2nd round pick

OTT gets: Nelson, Aho, Pulock, Subban, 2018 1st round pick, 2019 1st round pick

This is actually quite reasonable. I doubt however that VGK will take Ryan's bad contract just for 2 second-rounders. I think they'd want Ho-Sang added in that trade. Maybe Ryan, Ho-Sang, a second rounder and a third rounder seems more fair.

But as a thought, it definitely isn't the worst I've seen. Good work.

My reasoning for Knights taking on Ryan is quite simple: They're a team who are bound to lose guys to FA + One to Seattle(unless they somehow manage to make themselves exempt from the exp draft because they're new) and simply need to 1) Ice a team and 2) Get some caphit to reach the floor, because they're bound to have multiple young players who're still on ELC's.

Indeed - but it still doesn't change the fact that if they're landing Ryan, they can fetch a good extra price from the team that they're taking the that cap dump from. If I'd be landing a cap dump player for some team, I'd sure as hell want them to give something good to make doing that more tempting - like a prospect.

Based on the trade itself and how you explain this in the comments, this is a great post. Just... great. I agree with burgerboss that Vegas would want a steeper bribe, but not Ho-Sang levels of bribery. Bobby Ryan is overpaid, but he's not a bad skater. He's still NHL roster worthy, this isn't quite the same as a Bollig-style cap dump. I'd add Vande Sompel to the Vegas trade, but that's a small nitpick in my book.

Very good point about Ryan still being a good player. Had two 50-point seasons before crashing to 25 last year. I'm almost certain GB's system has also affected him heavily, could be a completely new and thriving player under Gallant. He's still a solid top/middle-6 forward. Bit similar to Phaneuf, that guy's not a plug. A solid dman, but not worth 7 per.
