I am not going to try and argue about whether or not this is a fair offer for either team, I'll make two different points instead.
First...what's wrong with Mika? I wouldn't dare say Zibanijad is as good as Draisaitl, but how much worse is he? Mika was on his way to a 50-60 pt season before he got hurt. With good wingers, and continued development (the guys only 24) I think we can expect 60 pts per as a norm for him. This isn't rock star production, but its pretty damn good. To get 15-20 more points, i need to spend another 3m against the cap? The two players compared on their own, OK you can make a case...but that brings me to my next point...
Why?
The Rangers are in full rebuild mode. If your talking say...a year or two ago...Stepan is still here, and I keep Zuc? I can see making the deal to give us a chance at the finals. At this point though, adding Draisaitl to an even more depleted roster isn't going to put this team over the top and win us a cup. So if we aren't winning the cup, then why make this deal? I would rather keep my young assets, keep Zibanijad, keep my draft picks, build the team and roll the dice.
