Trades
1.
EDM
  1. Beaulieu, Nathan
  2. Moulson, Matt
Additional Details:
(yes, Moulson got stuck in the AHL this year, but he's got a point a game there. He had 14 PPG last year. This deal replaces Maroon for free, and clears up the logjam at left defense. Like Maroon, Moulson has scored 30 goals a year in the right circumstances. Sekera has three years left at 5.5M. Moulson has two years left at 5.0M Beaulieu like Sekera, just finished a terrible year after posting some offense the year before).
BUF
  1. Gryba, Eric
  2. Samorukov, Dmitri
  3. Sekera, Andrej
  4. 2019 4th round pick (EDM)
  5. 2021 5th round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
This year Sekera was an unmitigated disaster in Edmonton. Last year and the year before he put up loads of points. Could be a huge upgrade over Beaulieu. Or not. But the cap hit is the same, and both he and Gryba will bring experience to Buffalo's blueline, to steady the ship a little bit. Samorukov is just a random, hit or miss prospect. Could be anybody, but Buffalo takes on more total salary in this swap of spare parts, and gets something for that.
2.
EDM
  1. 2019 3rd round pick (NYR)
NYR
  1. Talbot, Cam
Additional Details:
NYR are looking to build something quick. Talbot in a supporting role seriously eases Henrik's workload.
3.
EDM
  1. Connolly, Brett
  2. Holtby, Braden
  3. 2019 2nd round pick (WSH)
WSH
  1. Klefbom, Oscar
  2. Yamamoto, Kailer

No reason for the sabres to do this trade at all. All we're getting is more cap and wasted roster spots.

I think it helps each team address a position that's been an issue this year, and helps both get closer to the playoffs. Would it work if Edmonton retained a million or two?

The need for the sabres is another legit top 4d/top pairing d. Depth dmen are just not doing it for the sabres. We have plenty of depth but not enough studs. Obviously Dahlin would help that, but being realistic the sabres pick 4th and pick boqvist or hughes which more than likely won't be on the roster. I liked Sekera when he was in Buffalo but his career is shot and he is trending down.

I kinda think Sekera might be a #4 still, but I understand your skepticism. Any Edmonton fans want to weigh in?

I view this deal as the Sabre management telling the fans we will be rebuilding for the next 3 years. Sekera us an up and down defense-man, a couple of good years then a couple of not so good. Moulson is in the minors and Beaulieu had a really off year for the Sabres. How many posts had Beaulieu being traded for a 4th, well we get that and a fifth and a prospect. If Sekera can bounce back then maybe we get a 2nd or a 3rd as well. Gryba, E. & Samorukov, D could just stay in the AHL so no cap hit. Make the trade if we think the rebuild will last until next years crop of rookies entry level contracts run out.
