Description
Nylander moves to 3C with Johnsson and Kappanan as his wingers. The line enjoys the same sheltering as Bozie and JVR. Nylander > Bozak. Johnson/Kapanen = or> than JVR/Brown.

Gardiner traded straight up for Tyler Myers. Both are in their last year of their contracts and both the Jets and Leafs benefit from balancing thier RD and LD makeup. The Jets are nearing cap crunch and their right side is crowded with Buf and Trouba. Myers is the odd man out. Plus, I highly doubt Gardiner will be resigned by the Leafs when his contract is up. Dermott is his natural replacement.

Carolina is in a cluster of a transition by the looks of it and Skinner hits FA in 2019. We ship them a 2019 2nd, Lievo and sign and trade Carrick as a package for Skinner. And throw in Martin if they'll take him, otherwise ship him out for a bag of pucks somewhere else. Skinner slots in on Matthews left side and Hyman gets bumped to his strong side on his right. Skinner's speed and scoring make for an interesting replacement for Nylander leaving the top line.

Lindholm, Aaltonen and Grundstrom compete for left wing on the fourth line with Brown as a mainstay on the right and UFA signing Reilly Nash as the 4C.

Holl and Borgman compete as 6/7 d and Hainsey as the 5 D shifts from LD to RD so Holl and Borgman play on their strong side when in the line up.

Sparks makes the roster and McBackup gets shipped to Edmonton for a third

Skinner is a good addition. Winnipeg might not want Jake Gardiner though. Myers isn't fast enough for the leafs.

Just like McDonagh, Skinner is worth more than your two worst players and a second round pick.

Skinner is a very interesting idea, but I agree with the above that even in his contract year, you may not be paying enough. I doubt Carolina has any interest in Carrick, for example.

No thanks, for Myers. The idea of swapping a L for a R is fine, but I think we should be aiming for better than him.

Yeah, you're right. The Jets might not want Gardiner, but if they do I think it'd be nice to get our hands on Myers. He is slower of foot, but big, a bit nasty at times, plays RD, and he cant be much slower than Hainsey. Plus, it allows us to bump Hainsey down to work his old man magic with Borgman, and maybe Holl (like to get more of a look at him). And if Myers doesn't work out, let him walk after the year, much in the same way Gardiner will walk after next year. BTW, I don't have the ridiculous hate on for Gardiner like some others - I like the guy! I just see him walking after next year anyways to make room for Dermott.
