I don't know if trading the 3OA pick is in your best interest but, as a NYR fan, I think I'd accept this.

Hayes - Following up on Viqsi's Proposal
Thanks but no thanks. If the Rangers move Hayes it's because they're bringing in a high-end prospect or a defenseman, not another (but worse) center.

You're not "giving up" Lucic, you thank god there's a team willing to take on his behemoth of a contract for a reasonable price.

Zibanejad has been injured in each of those three years: his PPG is decent and due to explode. And Thomas is clearly not a top 5 prospect in the league. He's very good, but he's not Pettersson, Heiskanen, Puljujarvi good.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Codyymd16</b></div><div>That first trade doesnt make sense, a cap dump for a cap dump and Rangers move up in the draft? also Vancouver needs defense more than forwards</div></div>
It does: both are cap dumps but Lucic's contract is worse: 5 years instead of 3 (and 26M instead of 15M). It's difficult to estimate the value between the two contracts in draft capital, but as a NYR fan, I'm not sure how I would feel if this trade occurred. The other two trades are bad, though.

Do you think that Smith will get another chance at the NHL roster? Didn't keep tabs on him after he got sent down. I know NYR have many young D men in the pipeline (Day, Lindgren, Hajek, you've added Fox) who might be better used in that spot.</div></div>
Out of these prospects the closest to the NHL is Hajek, and I still think a season in the AHL would do him good. Fox will still be in college. I think that, to fill the LD spot, it is either Smith (who obviously will come to training camp more motivated than ever – and in shape) or a UFA or trade. I think it is best to give Smith a shot, since it won't cost us anything and he looked amazing with Skjei in 16/17.

Halverson has fallen hard on the Goalie Depth chart... He was our best goalie prospect when he was drafted, but right now Shestyorkin, Georgiev, Huska and probably Nell are ahead of him. I don't think he ever makes it to the NHL – probably plateaus as an AHL starter (I could be wrong, of course).
And adding to that, Kreids is not going to be traded. He'll probably receive a letter this year. When he returned after his collarbone surgery he was a beast, and he has been at the Worlds for USA. I won't be surprised if next year he has 30+ goals. I also like him a lot. So I perceive his value to be more than a good defenseman who had a bad season (though I admit a more than possible bias).

Ottawa was trying to bundle Bobby Ryan with Erik Karlsson in a trade... they are so cheap they essentially paid a 2nd rounder to NYR so that they could save 2M$ in Brassard's signing bonus two years ago. Gaborik is owed 11M for the next three years. Are you sure they don't at least consider it?
As for Calgary, they are trading for Namestnikov in exchange for Adam Fox and a slight worsening of their cap room. Dunno.

NYR will not give him up unless a top prospect comes back and they certainly will not hold back some of his salary unless return is improved. I didn't say he wasn't good. 2 of those years were as a backup, and last year he played 47 games. He had a hell of a year, but before we say he's in elite territory I'd like to see some sustainability: understand the effects that variance can have on small sample results. He was very good in GSAA too, which is why I am optimistic about him, but let's not forget that Thomas Greiss also had three good years before falling off a cliff (and many others alike).

"Cap certainty" is the most eloquent formula I've heard for "bad contract". I mean, Lucic also gives Edmonton cap certainty.
That 1st round pick in the Nashville trade makes up the difference in talent, but to have NSH absorb Zaitsev's contract, you'll need to offer more. Ditto for Matt Martin. And why would Vancouver make that trade?

I might be a little low on Skjei, but I think his value is fairly similar to Klefbom's. Also, I would love to get that for Zuccarello, but I worry that Pacioretty will have a "Karlsson effect", where a better player at the same contractual length and similar $ is available and that drains down the return you can get.

Because we have to tank for Jack Hughes.
That defense is cringy, but NYR can rebuild it from the plethora of picks they have, and you can count on Brendan Smith being back and maybe signing De Haan. To be honest I just wanted to know if Oilers fans think the trade is fair (I would not want to do it). Let's see if someone replies.

Get the Draft Boards from 2010-15 and see the names in the 2nd round. There are better players than Spooner and Namestnikov there, but not many, and a lot don't make it. When you pick a player there, you hope ends up being a Spooner or a Namestnikov. If they're traded together, the least you ask for is a 1st + 2nd. Finally, yes there are young players that need to play. But they also need to not get hammered every night.
