No teams will line up to pitch for him. GMs know game changing players rarely become available. Prospects are still unknown, so despite how touted they are, if they aren't playing in the NHL more assets will be added. The Duchene trade is a good example of how many assets was required. Most people said they were at a disadvantage in trading him because of the public feud. Yet Avs got 6 assets. Karlsson should and will get more value than that trade if he's traded. It's silly to think he wouldn't.
The Duchene trade was silly, I have no idea why Ott was so willing to do that, it made no sense in my mind but I wont complain. They got a lot of pieces but really no one was saying they got A+ prospects, but then Girard came into he NHL and looked unreal as a 19 year old, then Bowers exploded at BU. Now it just looks silly when you add Sens 1st (no one thought it would be a potenital lottery pick) and guys like Kamenev (sucks he broke his arm, curious to see what he does next season).
It is true, prospects are still an unknown, but Avs invested the 4th overall into Makar, and could see another Top 5 pick back with the Sens pick. As good as EK is, those arent everyday trade pieces. Have to think hard on if you want to invest in trading those to start your window to win a cup now, or do you keep on building and in a couple years, you could have your own mini EK on your blueline in Makar.
I dont think Karlsson will get 6+ assets....its like saying to get 2nd pairing Dmen in this league you need to trade Taylor Hall, bc one GM made a very bad trade, it doesnt set the market. Sens will ask for a lot to try to recover the over payment they did, but that doesnt set the market for all future trades. I know that Ott is hot and heavy to get their own 1st round pick back based on some Avs beat writer insider comments, but I dont think they will be doing them any favours by adding elite level prospects too it too. If Ott wants it back, they will have to do try to pry it back from the Avs
