Orprick is like the Oilers fans trying to dump Lucic. It's just not going to happen.

I also don't think you are going to keep Kempny at 1.85. Other teams will go after him. My guess is he gets 2.5 to 3 mil.
I think you are about to learn the hard way that winning the cup sucks for your salary cap.

Orpik's cap hit is both not as big and not as long as Lucic. You can make an argument that it will be hard to move him because of this but to compare him to Lucic's deal is ridiculous.

I just don't see how Kempny gets this much money. We have his rights until July 1st, so if he's asking anything more than 2 mil, it's not worth it. His career numbers in the NHL are 18 points in more than 100 games. Up until his trade to the caps he was a healthy scratch half of the season with the hawks. Without his time with the caps, I don't know that he even gets another strong look at the NHL, regardless of how good he actually is and has been in the playoffs. He wasn't utilized very well with Chicago and if he went into the offseason ending with the hawks he'd be making less than a million. Played great in the playoffs which warrants the ~2 mil he'll hopefully get with the caps.

Possibly true - don't think that moving Orpik is critical, but I'd like to see them shed the cap if possible. Also think the perception of Orpik inside the NHL is much different than his perception outside.

If Kempny can sign somewhere for $2.5-$3 million, he should go somewhere and get paid. Don't personally see that happening.

Don't disagree with you - I think $1.85 is a reasonable bridge contract for both Kempny and the Caps. It's the right system, staff, and team for him to succeed, assuming they can keep Carlson and promote Reirden to head coach. Can always put him on waivers if it doesn't work out and let somebody else pick him up, if a trade isn't available.

He gets more than 1.8 million for the same reason Ben Lovejoy got 3 years at 8 million several years ago.
Was Lovejoy worth 8 million? Nope, done basically nothing to prove he was worth that contract which is why the Pens let him walk and well you can see Kempny's future.
