I dont mind this trade. But they should find a stop gap 2Nd line centre instead of throwing Logan brown to the wolves. Let him come up through the ranks instead of walking on to 2Nd line
Ideally. But considering the budget (68 M$ last year) and youth movement (Brassard just got trade for Gustavsson, the 22nd OA pick and a 3rd), they might have to. The relative success of the team next season (aka not give a high pick to Colorado) will depend heavily on the development of young players like Thomas Chabot, Logan Brown, Colin White, Filip Chlapik and maybe even Drake Batherson, Alex Formenton, Christian Wolanin and Christian Jaros. If they are half as good as they can be, then the team will be in a much better position than people think.
If they take the rebuild route and trade Karlsson for futures, then they should also forfeit their 4th OA pick this year and take more time to develop young players (and not win too much) to be in the lottery next draft.
This proposal accomplishes a bit of both which I don't necessarily want IF they have to trade Karlsson.
Elliott for Anderson swap is ok because they would save significant salary (3.0 vs 5.5)
Sanheim is a good young D-man with upside
Simmonds is UFA to be, would need an extension. Although I'm not sure it's the best idea because he is getting slow for the new NHL.
Rubtsov is a good prospect
2019 1st round pick (PHI) : should be quite late.
2020 1st round pick (PHI) : should be quite late
Not sure that'd be the package I would be looking for but interesting nonetheless.
