overpayment for McDavid tbh. You could probably take off the picks.

Eh, add in like 50% cap retention on McDavid so that we can re-sign everyone, and trade Killorn for Pacioretty or Panarin something (probably Pacioretty to fit with the cap). And come on, if you're going to have a team like this, at least organize the lineup correctly.

Pacioretty-McDavid-Miller (replace Pacioretty with Panarin if you want, or leave it as Killorn and switch him around with Gourde)
Palat-Point-Kucherov
Gourde-Stamkos-Volkov (Volkov has played RW before)
Erne-Cirelli-Joseph
Stephens- (Cirelli's essentially a lock for the roster, but Erne, Volkov, Andreoff, Stephens, Joseph, Raddysh, and Katchouk are all competing for the rest of the spots. I say the latter two need another year to develop, and Andreoff's the odd man out).

Hedman-Karlsson
McDonagh-Sergachev
Dotchin-Stralman
Cernak (I think Foote needs the extra year of development more than Cernak, who would sit out most games as a 7th D-man).
Vasilevskiy
Domingue

And then one of McDavid, Kucherov, or Stamkos is on the ice for over 45 minutes per game, and when they're not, you have Cirelli (who many fans think is poised for a breakout season and was on pace for 20 goals last season) along with some promising prospects.

Why would Johnson agree to go to Oilers??
Not happening.

Your not getting Karlsson without giving 2 of Foote, sergachev, or Point.

I'm sure the Lightning will gladly swap Johnson for J.T. Miller or something if the Oilers are interested in moving McDavid to Tampa.

Realistically, then, they're not getting Karlsson. I'm not saying that Coburn + Girardi + Koekkoek + low 4th + low 5th = Karlsson, but if you consider the Lightning's actual needs, losing both Sergachev and Foote puts them in a bad situation in a few years, when their entire defensive core is over 30 (and Yzerman's vision involves perennial contention, so he wouldn't risk it like that). If they lose Point, they immediately become a worse team. Regardless of which player is better, their defense is fine and will likely improve as McDonagh establishes chemistry and the new defensive coach stars and everything, whereas they don't have a legitimate two-way #2C who can replace Point in shutting down other team's top lines. Furthermore, the Senators have very little bargaining power at this point. They could get one of Sergachev or Foote, but that's it.
