Description
Stone asked for 9M in arbitration. If he has a solid year, 8.5 per x 8 years seems about right....

This would give the sharks a very strong 4 lines forever, with just Pavs as the only one over 31+ years old, and virtually all others (aside from cooch at 30) between 23 to 28.

I like the team but 82.5m is generous for next years cap and there is no room for extras

Thanks and I would be so happy to see this deal. To me, mid 20's picks are just way overrated. The sharks seem to have more success in the 5-7th rounds than they do in the late 1sts. Look at Labanc, Ryan, and the great development thus far of Chekhovich and Chmelevski. Compare that to Mueller or Goldobin and it seems like the late 1st rounders arent worth that much than the 6th or 7th rounders, and yet, they are a pretty hot commodity. Furthermore, Dougie is a master of finding the quality undrafted free agent. Sorenson, Goodrow, Donskoi, Karlsson, all undrafted free agents just like Radil, Praplan, and Suomela coming up as well as Halbegwath (sp?). Martin Jones was also undrafted. Getting those guys costs nothing, and given dougie's proficiency at it, I would be just fine trading thoe top round picks to add some star power.

Only problem with the 2021 pick is that if this happens at the 2019 deadline, then the 2019 draft still hastnt happened so a 2021 pick is 3 drafts away. that carries far less weight and already the 2020 draft picks are discounted compared to 2019. a 2019 2nd is likely more valuable to most teams than a 2021 1st. As such, I think the 1st would have to come for 2020.

yes, that is an issue, and you are absolutely right. I think 82M is more likely (but that's actually less than a 3% increase, so it could go as high as 83M or even 83.5.

However, assuming 82 or 82.5, this team is a bit over. I think the solution would have to be to move dell or Dillon. Dell can be moved very easily for a mid-round pick (hell have just one year before UFA by the start of 2019-20, so his value is lower than now). Bibeau can replace him, particularly if he has a good year this year as the #1 Cuda goalie. That saves a little over 1M. Dillon can also be moved with Heed/Cimek/Middleton/wood/unnamed vet taking his place on a 1M deal. That saves over 2M. The core of forwards can still remain and fit under the cap.

I would plan for a 1-2 mil bump. the only reason the cap went up so much this year was because of the 500 mil expansion fee.
