I don't care about the 1st, this team is to show how the sharks can take on bad contracts in exchange for draft capital and still fit it under the cap, I don't care about the specifics. Also Johnson is the one with the full NTC, whereas killorn has a 16 team no trade list so he is far more likely to get moved.

Well Johnson has a full ntc and Tampa has to move somebody so they don't have a ton of leverage.

Like I said the actual picks aren't what's important, Tampa doesn't have any 2nds so it got bumped up to a 1st. To counter Driedger is 27 and has played 38 nhl games. We won't know until he signs but to make it fit he could be reploaced by a guy like hutton, halak, brossoit etc

there isn't a huge difference between a late 1st and early 2nd. and I have heard that some teams might be undervaluing picks because of the uncertainty of the draft. I don't know if Florida is one of those teams but we can hope.</div></div>

well if Reinhardt forces a trade, mixed with a rookie GM, and the fact that buffalo might overvalue a top 9 forward who is signed long term. maybe they get lucky.

Thread:
labanc to MTL
Here's my reasoning, Montreal has expressed interest in moving the 16th for top 6 help. This trade is based on the value that TOR got for kapanen. Labanc was drafted the same year, had a bad season but has a higher single season point total. TOR also got Wallander which is what the 2nd represents. This is just a framework so more AHL contracts and bottom 6 can be thrown in to even it out. MTL might prefer to trade a prospect instead of the 2nd but because of this deep draft, if I am SJS I want more picks
SJS is already very thin on Rw but there are tons of cheap bargain bin options in FA like Ryan, Simmonds, fast leivo etc. So SJS could sign some stopgaps to keep treading water while adding some high end prospects to the organization.

2020 cap situation
for Ryan/gambrell I just rounded up. 700k-900k might make more sense but for the purpose of this team I don't think it really matters
3 years for Pavelski is also reasonable, but I am hoping for a 1 year deal that way we don't have to protect him in the expansion draft.

It's a bridge deal. Hertl got 2x3, Timo gets a little bit more than that. He is also an RFA without arbitration rights so he doesn't have much power.

Leafs Part 2 2019-2020
8x10 is a joke. it's the same contract that Eichel signed a little over a year ago. At the time it was 13.33% of the cap which would come out to 11mil if the cap went up to 83mil. If Auston mathews finishes the rest of the season he will have missed 34 games over the course of his ELC, Eichel missed 37 games during his ELC and has also not done anything during the playoffs. This on top of the fact that mathews is just a flat out better player than Eichel means that 11-12 is the bare minimum.

Adding two forwards Your thoughts
Strome isn't good. I also wouldn't trade Braun until after the 2019 season because we don't need the cap relief yet. The Vesey trade doesn't make much sense for the rangers.

You left out joakim Ryan and Tim Heed, They are the answer on defense before Gardiner gets signed. Also I don't think Merkley will be ready by then.
