three way trade with OTT and TOR (Revised)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>The price is too much for a rental of Ellis and TO won't be able to get him inked until after next season. This isn't the year for a bold move for a defenceman.</div></div>
It starts as a rental but with hopes of re-signing him. It won't be easy but I think it is worth the risk. Also Ellis is from the Hamilton area so he may have worn leafs pajamas. In my opinion this is a good year to go for it. two of the kids are still on their ELCs, With guys like Gardner on his way out I think it's worth it to take a shot.

I like the TOR trade though. Not sure how they make it all fit next year</div></div>
It looks like Erik Karlsson has been hesitant to agree to an extension so my thought was that Nashville doesn't include an extension but takes a gamble that they will be able to extend him in the summer. They have the money and a winning team.

Best solution here is probably to not stretch for both Karlsson and Stone.</div></div>

Thread:
3 way deadline deal with Leafs and Senators
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rtapp326</b></div><div>This would be larceny by Nashville. Let’s break down the deal.
If you take Karlsson and Ellis out of the trade, you have Nashville getting Mark Stone in exchange for Dante Fabbro (a top 20 pick going back for his third year of college), Ryan Hartman (a 23 year-old bottom-six winger), and a 2019 1st round pick from the team that had the 29th and 27th picks in the first round in the last two years, and is going to get better with this trade.
Compare that to what Nashville gave up for a comparable player, if not a less valuable player, in Kyle Turris - Sam Girard (same age as Fabbro, already playing a significant NHL role), Vladislav Kamenev (was slotted for a similar role as Hartman with Colorado, but went missed most of the season due to injury; 1 year younger), and a second round pick.
Even if you made the stretch to say that Fabbro, Hartman, and a 1st is enough for Stone, you’re still upgrading from Ellis to Karlsson for free.
Nashville would have to give up at least one other major piece, like Tolvanen, if not more, if this framework was to happen.</div></div>
You could argue that Stone's value is less than Turris because he is a 1 year rental and it is well known that Ottawa wants to move him. But I get what your saying. I think if you cut some of the fat and leave out Stone you could get a fair deal.

Stone Cold Sharks (future)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>slepler</b></div><div>yes, that is an issue, and you are absolutely right. I think 82M is more likely (but that's actually less than a 3% increase, so it could go as high as 83M or even 83.5.
However, assuming 82 or 82.5, this team is a bit over. I think the solution would have to be to move dell or Dillon. Dell can be moved very easily for a mid-round pick (hell have just one year before UFA by the start of 2019-20, so his value is lower than now). Bibeau can replace him, particularly if he has a good year this year as the #1 Cuda goalie. That saves a little over 1M. Dillon can also be moved with Heed/Cimek/Middleton/wood/unnamed vet taking his place on a 1M deal. That saves over 2M. The core of forwards can still remain and fit under the cap.</div></div>
I would plan for a 1-2 mil bump. the only reason the cap went up so much this year was because of the 500 mil expansion fee.

I like the team but 82.5m is generous for next years cap and there is no room for extras

You said they are expected to re-sign, not that it was built into the deal. Duchene was expected to re-sign in Ottawa but it didn't work out that way. Even if he does re-signs it's still a terrible deal for Colorado.

You don't need to a crystal ball to see that the first round pick of a basement team is worth more than 1 year of Mark Stone

No. Faulk and Skinner are good players but they are not worth pissing away our future and our depth for. The trade barely makes the team better and certainly doesn't make us favorites to win a cup.

San Jose Sharks and Ottawa
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>graderman</b></div><div>Ha! In all seriousness, could the Sharks re-sign Pavelski as well if Panarin got $9.5M AAV? Right now they have 12 guys signed at $64M in hits for next year. That would leave about $8M for 9-10 non-Pavelski’s.</div></div>
Well Pavelski will be 35 when his next contract starts so I don't think He will get a big raise if any. Joe Thornton's 5 million will come off the books so that frees up some space. If we trade away Meier and Labanc then that's two contracts that the sharks don't need to re-sign. We might need to dump a Karlsson or Dillon but overall it sounds manageable.

Adding to the defense and potentially shedding Marleau
I don't think the sharks are going to give the leafs free cap relief after they poached Marleau and Tavares. I also think that the Sharks are looking to add pieces and simply won't have the cap space to add him even if 50% of salary is retained.

The idea behind this team is that the shark's offer sheet should be right up against the upper limit of what a 2nd round pick gets you. I am estimating it will be about 4.2 million if it ends up as being less then sign him to less. the 4.2 is just a placeholder number.

How? the cap is only going up. in 2017 it was 3.9 mil. even if you were right I don't see the point of arguing over $200,000.

That's for this year. It goes up every year so I am just guessing it's going to fall somewhere around 4,200,000 as the upper limit for a 2nd round pick.
