If Moulson could score 30 goals playing with Tavares, I would think Reinhart could get 40.

Toronto is entering Karlsson territory with Nylander. The whole league knows the situation. They aren't gonna help you out with it. The talent balance will swing the other way because toronto is stuck. I wouldn't expect a great return if he's traded. Especially considering the cap hit he's coming with. Their options are limited. 1st they won't trade him to a contender especially in the east. Then how many teams have cap space to fit an 8 million salary.
If you take teams with 4 million + cap space and possible place to land you are down to 11 teams. How many would give up something major for him. My guess is not many.
If you take out winnipeg, nashville, Ottawa (too cheap) and maybe vegas as all being cup contenders you are down to 8. It's slim pickings for trade partners, the return will be slimmer than most people think

Just remember that whilst teams obviously won't be willing to 'help the Leafs out' and would get the best deal they could if they made a trade with them, a lot of them will have their own RFAs to sign and will obviously be watching closely and hoping that a vastly overrated player doesn't get what he wants. If Nylander gets 8 mil, then Rantanen should be looking at 10 and Stone as a UFA should be looking for 12. No GM wants to see that happen and crush their salary structures!

That really depends on the value you put on those players. Players are always gonna try to get the maximum they can get. That's how it should be. Would Stone get 12, I don't think so. Not even if WIlly gets 8. That's just how it is. But he's gonna try to get the most he can. In the end other players contracts don't really mean a whole lot. Why should JT have gotten more than Crosby. He's clearly not the same level of player. But he got what he can, and that's how it works. If Nylander can get his 8, good for him.

I'm merely saying that's the relative value if Nylander is valued at 8 mil per. I hope to the Gods that Toronto stand firm.
