Benning and Benson don't move the needle enough.

I've been on here harping on Leafs fans for overvaluing Nylander, but there's nothing here that gives an immediate impact.

I would guess that the conversation would have to start with Puljujarvi or Yamamoto, add in a 2nd, and then add a Dman (Maybe Benning? But he might not be enough).

I still don't think the Leafs do it though. Nylander being fed by Connor, or vice versa would make Chia look like a genius and Dubas look like Chia of the past.

I agree, but so far this season Benz > Yam ans Benson is also closer to being NHL ready. I added Benny and Kassian because those are two current roster players who maybe dont make a massive impact but do fill holes (also for cap reasons)

From what I've read, it just seems like Yam has a much higher ceiling than Benson.

End of the day though, it seems unlikely that anyone is going to swoop in and overpay for Nylander right before they overpay him. Gotta think he's sweating it pretty hard right now, knowing that it's his value isn't going to go up if he sits out for the year.

Can't see that interesting Toronto at all. If they're really desperate, maybe Puljujarvi (if he starts tearing up the AHL), a young dman or defence prospect (Bear?, Jones?), a pick, and a decent/cheap roster player(Caggiula?). Even if Toronto is forced to trade him, I can't see it being cheap. Many other teams will definitely be interested

Yams ceiling is way higher than Benz, but so far this year Benson looks like a way better player who can drive a line as a winger.

I also agree that nobody is going to overpay for Nylander who could very well sit out. I also think lots of rumours about him are false because teams dont want to risk it. team like Edmonton who could use a top6 winger could take a risk
