So your answer to help the preds re-sign Josi and co is to take away bonino, force them to retain on said player, while also getting stuck with Maatta’s contract? That openly makes their cap situation worse due to having more money tied up for what would be a bottom pairing D.

4 million for a bottom 6 forward < 4 million for a top 4-6 dman that can play big minutes. NSH retains a little because Maatta is better for what he provides but and Nashville have better young players to take bonino's place. you're a hawks fan so i know you wouldn't know what good contracts look like or are supposed to look like when you have players like toews and saad.

So that helps Nashville's cap situation how? Maatta isnt needed on Nashville when they have 4 Dmen miles better than Maatta has ever been along with Fabro in their system who is yet another high end D prospect. Taking Maatta is downright stupid for the Preds when he essentially costs 5 million a year factoring in the retention on Bonino.

Youre entire trade was debunked and this is how you respond? Youre team spent almost 30 million on an awful D group (somehow decided that Jack Johnson would be the key to fixing those issues lmao) you pay Bryan Rust 4 million to provide 4 goals, and Hornqvist's body will be broken down before he ever finishes that contract. Do I even have to mention how you are paying almost 4 million for a goalie who has worse stats than an AHL callup who has more games allowing 5 goals than he does wins? All of these were done by the same guy who traded a 1st for a player that has never scored more than 13 points in a given season.

Doesn't help Nashville at all. They'd much rather pay a good 3rd line center 4 million, than pay there 5th dman 4 million. And you have them retaining on Bonino. The value is fair. But Nashville isn't looking for a 4 million dollar 5th Dman, like at all...

You do realize that your stated purpose of the trade is basically Nashville will have a hard time extending Josi with a 3C making so much money right? The solution to that isn't let trade the 3C away while retaining some money and taking on an even more expensive 5D. You're trade makes Nashville's cap situation worse and for longer. Instead of 4.1M tied up in Bonino through end of 20-21 season, we now would have 4.5M tied up in Maatta throuh end of 21-22 season. Not to mention we have Hamhuis as a 5D and so far he's showing he's still capable of 2nd pairing minutes, Allard on deck in MIL, Y. Weber who is a pretty good 6D for the money, and Fabbro should he sign. If Bonino were traded, it'd be for purely futures return (picks/prospects) but that won't happen until we need the capspace. Earliest that happens is when Josi extension comes due but due to the expansion draft the year after I believe we'll be trading a Subban in the next offseason or two.
