Pens decline because of contract. Unless peiterangelo has a reasonable contract extension in place

Pens decline because idiot Sullivan chased out Sprong who would have played the RW, He now has 3 goals in 5 games for the Ducks. Bravo Sullivan. Way to chase out obvious talent.

Sprong had to play behind Hornqvist, Rust, and Kessel. Now he only has to play behind Kase. Top six minutes and a change in scenery have helped a lot. He’s being used more offensively instead of defensively and that’s a good thing as he is skilled offensively, but he’s only average on the defensive side of things. Sprong really couldn’t thrive on Pittsburgh. He was buried. If he was a LW, he’d still be with the Pens and probably scoring too.

Think for 2 seconds about what you said. They sat him behind Rust and Hornqvist, who is 31 and not exactly a fast skater. Just think about that for a minute. What an epic mistake.

To be honest, Sprong was not in any way earning the promotion. Check out his PDO and Corsi. Yikes. He obviously showed signs of exceptional talent, but he wasn’t playing well. Hornqvist is not a top six player anymore IMO, but Rust has shown enough potential to almost offset what Sprong could have been. I do think it was a bad time to trade him. His value was at a low and they could’ve got a way higher return had they played him with Sid and shopped him at the deadline. Or maybe given him top six minutes.
