Description
So before people rule this idea out this could help in multiple ways. First Martinez is a proven vet dman who helps improve our d depth. Second by giving up the 1st and get their 2nd round pick we are really only giving up a 2nd round in value the LA pick should be a top 5 in the 2nd and the leafs 1st should be round 25-31. This may also slow down the trade market on dman cause it gives the illusion of an overpay like when SJ gave up a 2nd for Polak and depth then Reimer was traded a few weeks later for practically nothing. That deadline no big name dman moved which may have happened due to what looked like and over pay by SJ. Also, this could be part 1 if the trade if matthews and marner are signed to larger AAV than expected then if the leafs need to trade Nylander, Kap or Brown LA could be give 1st offer. So it may seem like an overpay to some but overall it may help on so many fronts.

Ok value for Martinez, but take that pick away. It's not really tempting for a retooling team for getting only a few picks higher in the draft and lose a good d-man in the process. Marincin would probably walk and Timashov alone is not worth that much.

Well the idea is possibly giving LA 1st crack at lets say kap if they feel they need to trade him and the 2nd goes back to LA and we get our 1st back and they give us maybe their 1st next year at the draft. But the thought is to slow down the trades of bigger name dman this deadline like SJ did a few years ago.

An underwhelming return for an NHL Dman with 2.5 years left on his contract. Really all it is that the Kings move up 15 spots in the draft. The reality this year is having Martinez replacing Ozzie, does it changes the Leafs fortunes this year?

Alec Martinez is signed to a reasonable $4 million per, No way LA eats half of his contract. Especially not for that return.

That is pretty damn bad for LA. Pittsburgh moved down 10 spots to get Ryan Reaves. Muzzin is worth a helluva lot more than Reaves. Sorry to tell you, but LA would laugh at that offer.
