It's all about cap space - Jets need to re-sign Laine, Connor, and hopefully Trouba or a replacement for him. That's likely $25M per year for those 3 alone. By moving Perrault they gain $4M in cap space for 2 years for a guy who is not a core piece going forward. They may not want Peca at all, Jets have a lot of promising forwards who need ice time.

Trade Trouba and have Niku step into the top 4 D then they won't need as much cap space, trading Niku would be a really dumb move by the Jets.
