To make this happen, John Carlson will sign a 6 year/ 43,5 M contract right after the trade. The Capitals could afford to lose a great defenseman for nothing and instead of doing so, they receive a decent package. Please let me know your thoughts and if this is a good trade.
If Caps are "going for it" this year, they might have trouble going for it justifying their best Dmen, despite the package being an overpayment for a rental. And that contract 7.25m seems excessive, Canadian would have four Dmen and a goalie totaling...five players making 35.5m. seem like a lot to me.
I don't really think that Caps are in need of player like Lindgren. They already have TOP5-goalie in the league, and a decent backup, and also Samsonov and Copley as potential prospects. Lehkonen would be a player of interest for them, but not for the price of selling one of their best d-man.
Hard no from the Caps. If we were to move Carlson (which we won't, because we need to resign him) it would be for a first round pick and a good prospect. We don't need another goalie prospect, especially since Samsonov is going to come over from Russia after this season. Lehkonen has solid middle six upside, and draft picks are always nice, but it doesn't fill any area of need for the Caps.
