Avs + Radulov Attmpt #2

Created by: Stazz21
Team: 2016-17 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 12, 2016
Published: Jan. 12, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Something went wonky when editing my original attempt, so I'm gonna put the revisions here and delete the other team. Revisions based in part on comments from LobsterMagnet19.

Based off a minimum cap increase of 5% from the NHLPA's option of the 5% escalator.

Lines are based off what Roy has been doing recently that's been working. I envision it as a top line, a 2nd line, and 2 third lines.

Ideally as the season progresses, Rantanen and Comeau switch spots, assuming the rookie can handle the responsibility.

Radulov at $5m??? He is on $9m+ right now and will want to make more than that if he comes back to the NHL.

Absolutely no way Radulov is going to make more in the NHL than he does in the KHL. He knows that. No team would pay him $9M+ as you're suggesting. He wouldn't come back for the money, he would come back for the chance to play in the best league against the best players. Maybe $5M is a bit low (my original proposal had him at $5.9M, but another poster suggested he wouldn't make that much), but a player with a history of being a problem in the locker room who has proven very little in the NHL before becoming dominant in an inferior league is not going to command top top dollar. If he wants to get paid like Patrick Kane, he can get that pay day after the 3 year contract being a 40g scorer; there is no proof he's going to be that in a league with better defenders and better goaltenders.

I agree Stazz21 with your Radulov price, if anyone is thinking hes going to be an 8m dollar player in the NHL need a reality check, he would be coming back to fit into a team, not be the star of a team.

And with his connection to Roy from Juniors, the Avs would be the 1 team I could see him leaving a lot of money on the table to join to play for his old coach again.

Lines are a bit jumbled in my mind, guys playing Wings that they should be playing, however it looks good. The only thing I think happens is Iggy is moved during the summer, I dont think he plays with the Avs next season

He doesn't want to come back and quite honestly, the NHL doesn't want him back. I don't think a smart GM would even pay $5M. I get all the stuff he's done in the KHL, but we have evidence in the NHL and it's not just 1 game. 26 goals and 32 assists in 81 games. Pretty decent. That alone will get you $5M, but factor in the nightmare NSH had to put up with & What amount would you place on the fear of him leaving again? But both of those pale in comparison to him being a healthy scratch for (2) games in the Western Conference Finals. ***RED FLAGS FLYING EVERYWHERE!!!*** Important players play in important games! Go back and watch Keith Jones and Mike Milbury rip him to shreds just on his effort. No defensive desire at all. Gotta be a two way player in the NHL.

or he said he is considering an NHL return this summer, so yes there is a chance he could be coming back

NO you went on a Rant that there is no way he is coming back and the NHL doesnt want him back, when in reality there is a chance he does come back, and from other reports a strong possibility that he does come back. He already turned down a KHL extension and in the summer there was Russian Reports that him and the Avs have already had talks . That was the point, there is a chance he comes back and a chance he comes to play for the Avs

That was sarcasm. All I'm saying is he has nothing to gain by saying..."I'm staying in the KHL." A very common thing in sports is to create demand where there really isnt any. Heck thats the job of an agent. Turning down an extention doesn't mean anything either. He may want a complete new deal that gives him more years. Maybe you want him here really bad. This isn't a personal post...me to coga...it's just pointing out factors that every GM has to ask themselves.

Yeah, anyone saying there's NO chance he's coming back to the NHL just isn't paying attention. It's no secret he and Roy have been in contact. He turned down a massive extension in the KHL. That's not to say it's guaranteed he's coming to the NHL, or that it's guaranteed he won't sign a huge extension in the KHL. Maybe he is just playing the two off each other to get a big Russian payday. But there's definitely a possibility that he'd come to Colorado.

Should an NHL GM/coach want him on his team? Well, there's only one way to find out! The guy is an undeniable offensive talent, but yeah, he comes with his red flags. Perhaps Roy could get the best of out him, perhaps he's matured, perhaps perhaps perhaps. In the end, this is a fantasy lineup, and it's fun to think bout what the Avs could look like next year if he reaches all his potential. That's a pretty incredible offense.

As to what he'll cost: considering I've gotten two very lower ratings, one of them because he's going to get signed for $9M+ and one because I'd be insane to sign him for anything close to $5M....well, that just speaks to me how hard it is to value the guy, so I think $5M is as good a guess as any. So....like...no reason to have a rage rant about it.
