The Oilers have no balance up front and no wingers capable of playing with McDavid. They also have an open wound in the form of a blood feud in the locker room. Pacioretty would be to McDavid what Bailey is to Tavares. Money. Galchenyuk playing on RNH's win would give the Oilers a genuine second wave as potent as the first. The Oilers have three UFAs up front, so there are roster spots and some cap room to play with. They can address these imbalances with UFA signings. Neal or Bailey would be good targets for them.

Montreal, too, might want to wait to see what the summer brings. With the cap the way it is, they could give Tavares $15M/year and still have space to re-sign Danault.

If both teams are unsuccessful in landing upgrades by UFA next summer, that's probably when the Draisaitl-Max-Chucky talks need to happen.
