Rust is an RFA after this year, so that’s why I added in a 3rd to Byron.

that 3rd should be coming MTL's way byron is a 20 + goal scorer and can be used anywhere in the line up, you'll need to to better than that

Byron is better and next year will likely be cheaper. It's a no straight up let alone throwing in a pick.

lol at giving me a 1 star for this proposal. Have you ever watched Rust? We just don’t have room for him after this year.

I’ll provide stats between the 2:

Rust
38gp, 4g+14a, 2 SH goals
54.4 CF%(holy **** i didn’t think it was that high), 3.2 CF% rel, 50/50 zone starts

Byron
42gp, 11g+5a, 10 ES goals
48.9 CF%, -2.7 CF% rel, 46/54 zone starts

For people who don’t know, CF% is your Corsi. ~48% isn’t good, ~50-52% is decent, 53~55% is good, <56% is great

It’s clear Rust has been better this year, statically speaking.

Rust a career high 15 goal winger playing with Crosby and Malkin. Byron a 20 goal winger with Tomas Plekanic. Like you said Rust is good. But you don't have room for him. It isn't a surprise Rust has a good Corsi% playing with an Elite center. It shouldn't be a surprise that Byron has a bad one playing on a team looking at a top five pick. I think Byron is the better of the two. You may think Rust is. But if he is better than our 20 goal man, what would you think he gets for a new contract. Regardless Byron having a vastly below market deal for next year while Rust is looking for a payday makes Byron the more valuable of the two. Hence making it laughable that you feel the extra pick should go the other way.

I read the reason you posted. Not sure how it makes sense. And sure playoff stats are awesome. Generally lead to elevated contracts that players can't live up to, Think Bickell or Brouwer, Horcoff or Pisani. Bonino might be a good example for a Pittsburg fan.

I prefer Byron, but there's enough potential to consider a straight up swap for the Habs. The 3rd is overkill though. I'd rather trade Byron for pick(s) than add picks to him to make a lateral move.

I also think you might be overestimating Rust's next contract. I can't see him breaking $2M on a short term deal, and he's not the type of player you need to buy up UFA years with and sign long term. What were you thinking it would cost to re-sign him?

Can't compare those guys to Rust, since they were all going to be UFA's.

Rust will be an RFA.
