3 way Trade between BUF NYI and MIN

Created by: trickydick55
Team: 2017-18 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 11, 2018
Published: Jan. 11, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Its an interesting Idea:

Minn needs more scoring and could really use Kane but don't have the picks to do it. Islanders need a top D man but don't have the NHL ready help most teams with a good D need. This three way trade solves NYI D problem and MINN Scoring problem and BUF gets 1 NHL ready player (as i understand it they see themselves as not rebuilding anymore and not looking for prospects unless they are top prospects) and some futures. Islanders also get lehner for their Goal tending woes.

Islanders still need a third center

that is what Expected goals against measures. uses weighted shots to quantify total quality of shots that team gives up/takes. the sabres currently rank 12th in xGA/60 they rank 15th in HDCA/60 against High danger chances are chances 10 feet and in. everything you are saying is not supported by numbers. my suspicion you are better at recognizing defensive shortcomings than you are at recognizing offensive ones and tend to focus only on the Defensive mistakes. but what you are saying isnt supported by any fact

As i said Lehner has been standing on his head

I've watched every game an listen to our analyst who point out the terrible movement from the D zone up. It's easy to be at the top of D possession metrics when your constantly in your defensive zone - the puck gets thrown in, they go fish it out, throw an errant pass up, it gets picked and thrown back in. Their offense has enough talent to be better than they are with better play making from the back. ROR Okposo, Pominville started hot, Eichel Kane, Reinhart. Rodrigues has shown talent, Girgensons (not saying he is good) had 30 points once. They acquired players with good possesion stats who have immediately dropped off

LMFAO bro thats not how possession numbers work. if you spend more time in you defensive zone than you do in your offensive zone, your defensive possession metrics get worse lol. Corsi measures all shot ATTEMPTS, Fenwick measures all unblocked shot ATTEMPTS, Scoring chances are chances given up in high percentage areas, High danger chances are chances given up 10 feet from the net. BAD DEFENSE AND MORE TIME IN THE D ZONE MAKES ALL THOSE NUMBERS GO UP. you need to understand possession statistics my friend before you start telling me they dont mean anything

if Lehner was standing on his head all the time the sabres wouldn't have a the 23rd worst 5v5 save percentage that ranks lower than 20 other goal tending that sees more Scoring chances against and high danger chances against. goalies who are actually standing on their heads night and night out are lundqvist and holtby. that passes both stats and eye test. I watch a majority of Caps games and every NYR game.

Dude you are entitled to your opinion, but you seem to not really know what you're talking about and thats okay. but dont come at me with this bs about how stats dont mean everything and that im the one trying to fit a narrative, when ignore the basic facts: Buffalo is in the middle of the pack on supressessing opposing shots and minimizing high percentage chances , they rank dead last in generating shots and generating high percentage chances

Yes I know Buffalo can retain salary on Kane. He's still not worth a club Dumba (RFA). It's nothing against Kane, I really like his game, but the longer he sits on Buffalo the less his return will be. Fringe teams (NYI and MN) aren't going to give up a possible top-15 pick (with a couple of balls in the lottery), or a quality NHL player that has team control for him. It's just not a good return on the investment and gets GM's fired if they miss the Playoffs, 1st round exit, and/or don't resign Kane.

As for Dumba going to Buffalo, elsewhere in the conversation; that's a bad idea. Dumba isn't the D-man Buffalo needs. He's getting better, but he makes the same mistakes the rest of Buffalo's d-corps do. Bad zone exits, errant passes that end up on the other team's sticks in the d-zone, random zone clears that end up going nowhere except the to top of the slot, etc. Brodin, Spurgeon, Trouba, Methot, a Scandella clone, etc. is what Buffalo needs on defense.

I agree with Shibbal18. Buffalo would just cut out the middle man and get the better deal. Dumba is worth more than Brock and a 1st. They could retain 50% of Kane’s contract, take on a cap dump or 2 and probably get a 2nd added from Minnesota. Botterill comes from Pittsburgh and he was one of the ones big on building the defense to support the puck and drive offense. So Dumba is absolutely the guy they would want the most in this trade.
