Bringing in a slew of mediocre D will not solve any issue. The trade for Faulk would be nice but would not happen as he is seen as a key piece in CAR. On top of this, the sens will be unable to ship out both Oduya and Burrows for any meaningful pick. Burrows has seen his role decrease and is as much of a liability as Oduya is. It is more likely for them to move as part of a package. Also, the left side on D is extremely weak and the other teams will exploit it

1) Oduya and Burrows have already both been reported as being seen as veteran pieces for teams gearing up for the playoffs. They suck but given the current mindset of GMs they have value.

2) Faulk has also been reported to be available for the right price. Whether or not that is the right price is a question neither of us can answer but it seems decently fair in my opinion.

3) Aside from Claesson where is the weak point on the left D? Chabot is getting better every game, Boro is fine as a 6th D. Demers has a killer shot and is able to move the puck.

Faulk isn't as needed anymore. They have Hanifin, Pesce, Slavin and van Riemsdyk who can hold the fort. Plus Fleury and Bean on the way. They can afford to move one of their defensemen for a reasonable cost

As was mentioned, Faulk could definitely be had. Carolina frankly does not need him. They won't give him away, but I think they would be incredibly foolish to not take that deal for him. Brassard is a low-end #1C they are missing, and Brown is a nice prospect.

That Vegas trade is a really creative mutual cap dump. Vegas can play Phaneuf and trade away one of its young guys for picks/prospects. Ottawa gets 2M in cap space to plan for the future.
