I think that is a fair trade for the Lightning. I know Yzerman loves his Russians so Volkov may not be the forward he lets go but someone along that level could work.

Considering that Tampa is probably prohibited favorites to win the cup this year, Green at $3 million to Tampa for any thing less then their #31 overall pick isn't happening.

Not even if they include Volkov who in his own right was a 2nd rounder just last year? I think you are getting hung up on 1sts vs 2nds here. Two years ago a 31st pick WAS a 2nd round pick! Volkov is a pretty nice prospect that could be a good one and add a late 2nd rounder to that and I think its pretty close to a 31st overall pick.

Volkov+2018 2nd round pick would be a sweet deal but Holland and Yzerman connection Holland will probably want his 1st round pick back from the Quincey deal.

Yes, I'm sure that an almost 6-year-old trade is the driving force behind Ken Holland's decision making. Are you seriously using that to evaluate trade value? Volkov is a very solid center prospect (which Tampa is loaded with and Detroit desperately needs). Combine that with a 2nd rounder that has a good chance to become a 1st and I think you have fair market value. Maybe you could squeeze another mid-round pick out of Tampa but I think you should be content with this type of return.

Personally I'd rather have a 20 yr old center who is already putting up good numbers in the AHL over the last pick in the first round any day of the week.

Thanks for the feedback boom. My thought process was a solid center prospect + good pick would be fair return for Green as a rental. I just chose Volkov because (from what I've heard from Tampa fans) he's not quite as highly thought of as Howden. I would take Howden in place of Volkov...just was shooting for a good center

If it's a center you are wanting to get, then Volkov is not your man. Volkov is a RW. Bolts center prospects ranking in my opinion are:
Howden-Cirelli-Stephens and then in any order: Peca, Colton, Somppi, Lipanov, Verhaeghe.

Interesting! Thank you! Would you consider Howden in any Green deal? I've always had the impression that him and Point are pretty untouchable (at least for rentals like Green would be)

Also, I would still take Volkov because in reality the Wings just need forwards in general.

I personally wouldn't trade Howden. He is the Bolts #1 fwd prospect so I doubt he and Foote (#1defense) would be included in a deal for a rental and we can't sign Green longterm. It's hard to get a read on Yzerman though.

Volkov is doing well in the AHL and at adjusting to North America but still a wildcard as of potential. If I was Detriot I'd ask for Katchouk (LW) or Raddysh (RW). They probably wont be NHL ready till the start of 2019 but have top 6 potential and tearing up the CHL. You probably wont get your 1st round pick in return though.

I like the pick and that it's conditional. It sounds like a Chiarelli trade.

I'm not sure why you want those prospects. Volkov was just drafted so theres almost no chance he's traded unless they consider them crap. Try 2 lower end prospects imo.

I'd do something like Green for Conditional 1st + Mitchell Stephens + Otto Somppi .... if you were wanting to target possible Centers.

I think I’d be happy with Stephens + conditional 1st. Thanks for the input!

I definitely like both those wingers. They seem like B+/A- type prospects. Maybe one of them plus a 2nd rounder? (No condition on the pick if they’re higher end prospects)

Ya I consider them as B+/A- prospects. If I'm the bolts I'm going to try to NOT move them and trying to sell Detroit on Erne plus a C prospect (Yan, Lipanov, Colton, Verheaghe) with that 2nd round conditional pick. It'll be interesting to see IF the trade happens, who is involved. I believe the extent of the bidding war will dictate the cost. I'd be find giving up anyone but Howden, Foote and Hajek (and Cirelli but that's just because he's my favorite prospect).
