That would be the 2nd time a Canadian team overpaid for Weber in 1.5 years.

At least Montreal would be getting even with the loss they originally took.

Haven't this trade been beaten to death forever. Weber's contract can be real anchor now and in the future . Doubt if the Leafs aren't going to give up their a young potential star in Liljegren for a 30 year old. And really would Weber really change the fortunes of the Leafs next year and for the next seven? He didn't do in Nashville or Montreal. Do you really want Bozak for another three years.

In real money, Weber is paid 1M/year for the last 3 years of his contract. If he can’t keep up, he will retire and Nashville will get the cap penalty because they gave him the contract. So technically it’s 5 years of the best defensive D-man in the league. Leafs are in the same boat as the oilers. Great offensive players, a solid goalie and good d-man, but missing that solid #1 guy. Weber is still one of the most used d-man. You’re crazy if you don’t think this makes the leafs legit contenders instantly.

Sure, they'd probably do better this year after this trade, but that's a very shallow outlook.

Let's say you play the lottery and you win a modest $1,000,000. Awesome! Now you go buy a Ferrari and a $750,000 house immediately after you get the paycheck. Livin' the life this year... then you get your tax returns next year and realize you owe the government $500,000. Now you're eating ramen out of styrofoam bowls and only staring at that Ferrari because you can't afford the gas to put in it. At least your Facebook pictures still look cool!

Sure, 1M$ when you have 0 is a lot, but when you’ve made over 100M already, it’s not that much.

Is Liljegren the new Kapanen?

Every leafs fan assumes every prospect is a star. the guy was a late 1st round pick.

Liljegren was the consensus #2 overall pick until he got sick and basically missed a year of development. Also #17 overall is not a late first.

To add, number of people who think or thought Kapanen is a star:

you must have missed the last 9 months when he was the centerpiece to about 50 Doughty trades on here.

17 of 31 can be considered late

You're not playing the lottery if you have $100M.

Even worse, is that every defenceman that another team doesn't want, he to be traded to the Leafs. Would like to see some sensible posts where OEL. Weber, Doughty.Tanev are traded to any other team but the Leafs, but alas it's 90% just to the Leafs. No other team would give so much for Weber, just the Leafs. How about you put together a package for your favourite team for Weber?

??????What. "You’re crazy if you don’t think this makes the leafs legit contenders instantly.[/quote]". C'mon using this argument to justify a silly deal. Then please, if Weber made all that difference, true contenders like Boston, Tampa, St Louis, Nashville should want him so badly because they would be Cup contenders. If you knew anything about the Leafs, you would know they are more than one defencemen away from being legitimate contenders/

It was Leafs fans that started the Doughty trades assuming he'd want to come home.

The amount of Bozak, Gardiner an d Kapanen for Doughty trades I saw over the summer....oh boy.

Maybe so, but thanks for putting together a Weber trade for your favourite team.

I'm not interested in Shea Weber and I've never put together a trade in my life on here that involves the Leafs.

That's my point. FYI, Weber plays for the Habs. I would just like to see one trade that a non Leaf fan would make for Weber for their favourite team. As I suspected, no one would even make one, as they know Weber and his contract, is such as detriment to make such as a deal. Thanks for the confirmation.
