third line has played a role in every cup this decade
in some cases out scoring their top 6 line mates leading the way.
there is usually a high paid 3rd player on every cup team and contender

Let's just imagine that Montreal pays a little bit more for Tavares than any other team offers. What's is JT's motivation to move/play in Montreal over maybe similar offers in Isle, NJ, St Louis, San Jose, maybe the Rangers?

The chance to lead a historic franchise to the cup number 25? Just kidding it's either he want to or he doesn't, why would he pick those other places over Montreal? I don't know his reasoning, as fans we can only make hypothetical scenarios where we hope we outbid other teams.

Danault was on pace for his second consecutive 40 point season while getting almost no powerplay time and playing good defensively. I hope they can sign him at $3.5M, that's a fair contract, but I could see him getting more.

Gee, might just the reason to stay away. 30.3m for three guys, plus another 10.1m for the Alzner and Petry. I suspect that I wouldn't be getting a great amount of great additions in the future.

Hypothetically the habs could win the draft lottery and get Dahlin which means all they are missing is a #1C.. convince Tavares of this and then you have a Stanley cup contender.. it's not certain Tavares will sign in Montreal (obviously). It also can't be said that he won't sign in Montreal.. nobody knows.
