Thats not even close to unlikely. Why would Buffalo retain? ROR is part of their core, its going to take more than a bunch of mediocre players and a first to get him let alone make Buffalo pay 1.5 mill over the next 6 years

I hate the "retain on ror" idea. The bulk of the real moneys already been paid, now we have to take a cap hit for 5 years too? Sure, hes probably overpaid for his offense at 7.5aav, but hes our second best player at a position thats costly to replace, with no obvious heir apparent in the organization. Even if you remove the retention its probably not a great move. We get sprong who would help on d, and the next best piece is likely around pick 30. Ultimately, ror is a good #2 center, which pitt doesnt need, thats slightly overpaid (seems like most people like him better around 6 mil), and it makes no sense for buffalo to move him for a quantity package.

Why though? Buffalo wouldn't accept this first, second O'Reilly won't want to play on the 3rd line, and finally why give up 2 great prospects like Jarry and Sprong

O'Reilly will be the 2econd line center even next year when Casey Mittelstadt comes up. If they play him at center he will play the 3rd line. I think its more likely that he see's time in the top 6. Also O'Reilly will do what ever is best for the team that's the kind of guy he is.
