My Ideal, Maybe Realistic, Team

Created by: Matthews34
Team: 2018-19 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 28, 2018
Published: Jan. 28, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Babcock likes defensively responsible players? Backlund meets the criteria. He's probably more of a 2C, but on this team it doesn't matter much as those are 3 extremely strong lines.

I'm a huge Tanev fan. I feel he'd be perfect on this team, and that price is about what I think it would take.

This team looks like a contender to me.

I like the team a lot. Close to what I would aim for. To me the pair Dermott-Carrick is very promising and I feel they're more than ready to pilot the 3rd unit next year, but the addition of Tanev is a safe choice. I always said he's a great fit for the team, so I wouldn't back up now. I'd resign Carrick for depth.

This lineup would be much improved defensively.

I still feel that we are not very strong at pure shooting. The numbers are misleading since the Leafs had a few high-scoring games at the beginning of this season. But aside from Matthews, we have lots of good skaters and playmakers, and few players with a lethal shot from the slot. We don't have many players who can take one-timers on the power play. I hope Kapanen or Johnsson could develop in that role. If trading with Vancouver, I'll seek to include prospect Reid Boucher in the deal, who, while still uncertain for the NHL, seems to be of the "sniper" type.

I like this team too, I wouldn't give up much more for Tanev, though some other team might.
Johnson has really broken out this year in the AHL, he might be the logical choice at wing next season with Grundstrom getting AHL experience next year.

I still stick with the teams I made. I don't know what the Leafs are gonna do cause they literally have more options then Leafsnation members. Lol if that's possible. Haha
