If this deal is to go through at the deadline, the Pens would only pay a pro rated percentage of his salary (which would amount to 550 k ish for the 20-some remaining games + playoffs). I could be wrong, but this is what I thought

2020 1st rd pick doesnt help us in the short term while we're retooling. jankowski is a good 3c, and we need a top 2 c. we have a lot of 3c's

Thanks for the input. I don't believe this "quick 2 year retool" is possible for MTL (unless they manage to sign JT). of course i could be wrong, but look at the organizational prospect pool. Rather than building a team that will make the playoffs in 2-3 years and be bounced in rd 1 or 2, lets stockpile picks and young players to build a true contender from the ground up.

id stock pile picks for the 18 and 19 draft. 18 has excellent wingers and defensemen, while 19 is projected for centers. 2020 is too far away. we have a potential 2c in poehling. we need a 1c. if not tavares, then another 2c could help. but not even management would wait until 2020. if u have a plan till 2020, then u have 0 chance of attracting any free agents
