Trade Deadline: The Quest for Ping Pong Balls

Created by: ashleyschaeffer
Team: 2017-18 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 8, 2018
Published: Feb. 8, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
(1) Kane to CBJ
- I don't know if Tortorella can coexist with Kane but I think Columbus is a solid trade because we can get a pick, an forward having a tough year, and a legit prospect with speed. Plus, if they don't make the playoffs, that's another set of ping pong balls for Dahlin. You can even send Milano down to Rochester after the season and load it up.

(2) Lehner to NYI
- Trading for Calgary's first means that even if we help NYI, Calgary can still miss the playoffs and more ping pong balls. Any 1st round pick we can get from a fringe playoff team, we should go after it. Greiss contract is ugly but with a little retained salary, he becomes a decent option for a #2 again, where he did his best work.

(3) Pouliot to SJ
- They like speed in the bottom 6 and they like low key moves.

I really like the concept of all of your trade deals, they all make a lot of sense. Maybe price is a bit too steep with Kane. I know that it's what the Sabres actually want, but I don't know if they're actually going to get it. But who knows, Minnesota paid that insane price for Hanzal last year. Maybe a lesser prospect than Milano would get the deal done. Other than that, this is really solid.

CBJ seems like a good destination. Milano isn’t getting playing time and has history with Jack. Not a huge fan of Jenner but you can stick him in the bottom 6 I guess.

In what world is Robin Lehner worth that haul? Maybe Griess and the 3rd. No way you're getting a 1st rounder

the 1st is because we're taking on greiss' contract and saving you 2.3 million to use to help resign tavares and giving you a goalie that can get you into the playoffs, which will help you resign tavares. so, in john tavares' world, robin lehner is worth that haul.

This is looking a little better after fully realizing that Greiss can no longer be trusted. 4.03 GAA .885 S% with 2 years left and Halak is expiring ?
