Trading away those who should be traded

Created by: alexgoodyear
Team: 2017-18 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 9, 2018
Published: Feb. 9, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
What the return could be for patches, Shaw, pleky and some of these god awful defenceman
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Thomas, Robert
  2. 2018 2nd round pick (STL)
  3. 2019 1st round pick (STL)
STL
  1. Pacioretty, Max
  2. 2018 3rd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Reported that Bergevin is looking for a top prospect, 1st and Second Rounder and a Roster Player for patioretty. I think Thomas is good enough that the Blues likely won’t give up a roster player. Maybe if Montreal targeted Kyrou the blues might throw in Fabbri if Montreal adds a Second Rounder coming back
2.
MTL
  1. 2018 2nd round pick (PIT)
PIT
  1. Plekanec, Tomas
Additional Details:
Can retain as much salary as Pittsburgh wants to make this deal possible, or even get someone back that is on an expiring contract. Many will say Plekanec isn’t worth that much because he doesn’t score as often these days but he does play a shut down role night after night against top lines for Montreal and an offensive minded team like the pens could use him. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was a 3rd plus a prospect
3.
MTL
  1. Morrissey, Joshua
  2. 2019 2nd round pick (WPG)
WPG
  1. Shaw, Andrew
Additional Details:
Heard Winnipeg is looking to add a top 6 forward and Andrew Shaw is perfect for them considering he has cup rings and they have little playoff experience. He brings grit, some good depth scoring and he’s a great locker room guy. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him yield a solid prospect or 1st and of course Montreal could take on a longer contract they might be looking to dump to sweeten the deal
4.
MTL
  1. 2018 4th round pick (CHI)
  2. 2019 3rd round pick (DAL)
DAL
  1. Alzner, Karl
Additional Details:
Alzner may be a piece of trash in Montreal but it’s mainly because he’s expected to play a bigger role than he ever has in his life. Montreal can afford to retain 2-2.5 million so a team could get a solid bottom 2-3 guy for 2 million for 4 years, not bad at all.
5.
MTL
  1. 2018 6th round pick (PIT)
  2. 2019 3rd round pick (PIT)
PIT
  1. Schlemko, David
Additional Details:
Similar to the Alzner deal except Montreal could retain one million and make this a streal for a team looking to get that final defensive piece
6.
MTL
  1. 2019 4th round pick (WSH)
WSH
  1. Benn, Jordie
Additional Details:
Once again can retain probably half the salary

Andrew Shaw is NOT a T6F. Plus, there's no way that the Jets are trading a T4 man at this juncture of the season.

Fair enough on the return portion, didn’t realize Morrissey played those minutes although Andrew Shaw is definitely a third line winger no question

Those are the people that we need to trade but some of the trades are not that good

Why are they “not that good”? I’d like to hear your opinion. Because In all honestly I think those are realistic returns and I’ve seen too many armchair gm teams where players are overvalued

I can see schlemko being unrealistic but don’t be suprised if the pens pay a second for plekanec. Sorry:/

I like your thinking in who you want to move out. A lot of people want to trade Patch, I am not so sure I would trade him as he is MTL`s only 30 goal player. But if a good offer comes along then sure. I doubt MTL gets Morrissey for Shaw, but I agree to move him. You might need to add a player or two to get Morrissey. Pleckey, completely agree and because he is so good on D-zone coverage you might get a 2nd round pick because many teams are going to want him for a deep playoff run.

Alzner I also agree to move. He is getting paid top 4 but playing like a 3rd pairing. Not sure you get as high as a 3rd for him, but I would still try to move him. I also agree to move Schlemko, although I doubt you get a 3rd pick for him, probably a 5th or 6th. I also agree to move Benn, but you will probably get a 6th for him.

You have 10 picks in the next two years in the first two rounds, you should be able to find 4 good players out of that and place on the roster in a few short years. You also have a boat load of Cap space to go get a good UFA. Many people have opinions but I like you thinking and direction.

Generally agree with you although I think they’re the players they definitely should get rid of. Patioretty because he’s their only player that can get them a top 2 Center and the rest because they’re all older (not very old) but still older and slower which is not the direction this team is going. I think it’s important for them to get rid of those players especially if they plan on bringing in similar players in trades to sweeten their overall return

I just hope Bergevin does something. If he thinks this current team is good enough, he needs to go. The defense needs an upgrade. Move out the dead wood and bring in some players capable of doing the job. Schlemko for example is on his 6th team in 4 yrs and he is getting $2.1. Boggles the mind. De Haan, Rutta, Moore would all be an upgrade should they want to go UFA route. I would also go get Andrew Nielsen from Marlies. He is nasty, good on PK and clears front of net. MTL has Weber that is strong enough to clear the front of the net. I am not saying have all 6 d-men like that, but at your 3rd pairing, have a little bit of nasty back there.
