ROR to Calgary over the summer

Created by: CuyahogaKid
Team: 2017-18 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 9, 2018
Published: Feb. 9, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'm probably way way way off here on the value and the needs, but I do think Calgary would like to add scoring. Evander Kane could be an option, but I think possibly the better move for Calgary is an established NHL centerman. Buffalo could also use a capabe defenseman to play the right side with Bogosian often injured, and Calgary has quite a few good options to fit the need

To Calgary fans: Even if this deal is way way off.....How good is T.J Brodie to you?

We will have Casey Mittelstadt next year, and unfortunately we need to give value to get value. Im also picking up Dube in the deal who could be the future 3C of this team, while shedding a lot of salary.

We have no defense prospects outside of Guhle, and Brodie plays the best from the right side. We need defenseman who can play the right side. We also have no defenseman who can provide offense.

You put Brodie in a d with Scandella, Guhle, and Ristolainen next year, while moving McCabe and Bogosian to bottom pair, your defense is vastly improved

An interesting scenario for sure. Both deals, especially the second one would be a hard no for me. We don't need a top two centre. We will be able to sign Backlund for $6 millionish for almost the same offensive production ROR has at $7.5 million. The second deal includes our top 3 non-pro prospects and with very few picks in the next few years, they are our future. We'd be depleting our prospect cupboards for the next 3 to 5 years.
Regarding Brodie, he is a very good top 4 dman with a reasonable price tag and one huge downfall...he makes dumb mistakes that directly result in a goal against about every three or 4 games. ie. fanning on passes to give up a breakaway or hitting the ref with a clearing attempt. We can't trade any of our defensive depth right now until Fox or Val are closer to NHL ready.

This idea is pretty dependent on what happens with Mikael Backlund. If he re-signs, the Flames have strength down the middle with Monahan, Backlund, Jankowski, and wouldn't really have a need for ROR.

If Backlund leaves, then it could make sense, and would more likely be the one including Brodie to balance out some salary.
