Description
Hartman is a great fit in Boston's system. A skilled, meaner player that would fit right in. He has been in Q's doghouse this season. Hawks move him for a reclamation project in Vatrano and a 2nd.

Pittsburgh has been looking for a 3C for the whole season, but there's really none on the market at an affordable price. Calgary is in the playoff picture, they won't move Backlund, and trading for Bennett is a big risk, he's not a consistent player yet. Anisimov isn't a big part of this team. The puck finds him in front of the net a lot. He's a good net presence, but Schmaltz is the 2C of the future for this team. Arty is expendable. His value will never be higher than it is now. Considering he actually has term and there's no competition from the trade market, it's simple economics.

Rutta is a bottom pair guy that would help TB immediately. Sustr is not working out and Rutta would be a good improvement, also saves them about 1 million in cap space for another move.

The last trade is simple. Toronto needs a bottom pairing guy, Polak is not very serviceable or reliable and Babs is having a tough time trusting the rookies. Cole would be a major upgrade. The reason Pittsburgh can't deal directly with Toronto is because they don't want Polak back in the trade, he doesn't help them. Toronto is at the 50 contract limit and would have to move a contract in order to get one.

Overall, if the hawks make these moves, they improve the teams prospect pool immensely and they can use these pieces to develop or trade at the 2019 deadline to go for a deep run. These moves won't affect the hawks chemistry too much and would free up more cap space for big name free agents. John Carlson would be a nice addition as would JVR.

Let me know how I did with the trades. I know Boston has a ton of depth guys in the system they really like.

I get the idea but no way the Hawks retain $1.5 million for the next 4 years.

3 full years. This year won't be a problem. 1.5 is not a big price at all. the return far exceeds the cost. A 1st 2nd and then flipping cole for a 3rd? You can't say no to that.

I like all of the players you moved. I think maybe you asked too much, like I’m not sure Hartman nets a second or Anisimov a 1, 2 and Cole. Not crazy

Who cares if Polak sucks, the hawks suck too. He'll be gone before you know it and he may never even dress.

Anisimov at that price is hard to beat, like I said in the description.

Good trades but I think Rutta is barely an upgrade over Sustr so not likely to get a2nd rounder back with him. I'd also hope we sell other expiring contract players for scraps. Bouma, Wingels, Kempny, Sharp, Jurco could possibly return a few 6th/7th rounders. Even guys like Oesterle and Gustafsson have looked really meh lately and could maybe fetch mid rounders. Oesterle has made some of the worst turnovers I've ever seen these last few games

Those draft picks look nice, however I don't see how that makes the Hawks better.

If a team doesn't want to pony up at least that for Hartman or Anisimov then you don't trade them.

Bowman doesn't need to trade anyone... The Hawks are finally going to have some cap space this summer so Bowman is going to be able to get the players he wants and needs that finish this puzzle... The Hawks are a couple of players away from contending... What the Hawks have isn't the problem - the problem is what the Hawks don't have. So I'm looking forward to see how Dylan Sikura plays into this... Of course it appears he's trying to pull a Hayes all of a sudden.

The only player I see Bowman moving if an opportunity presents itself is Seabrook...

Hartman and Anisimov have roles on this team, they're just not a good fit for the roles they're playing.

Relying on a college player who is yet to play an NHL game is a risky mindset. He could turn into Jimmy Vesey getting plugged on the 4th line. He's not a key piece until he's signed. These moves let the hawks acquire some prospective pieces to refill the cupboard and open up more cap space for more big pieces. I can't see Seabrook being moved at any point. He's the least possible player to be moved. His contract is so bad it'd take a large overpay of prospects that the team can't afford to lose because they're running short on them.

I wouldn't rely on Sikura, but It would be nice to see where he fits on this team (or if he fits).. It would be nice to get a look with what we got in him before the fall so we know what to expect. Sure, he could be a flop, he could also be a stud - we wont know until we sign and play him. Right now he's arguably the best player in college hockey so I'm looking forward to seeing what he can bring.

Trading Hartman and Anisimov for futures doesn't make this team better right now.. The Hawks are a couple of pieces of the puzzle away from being legitimate contenders once again and I think Hartman is a piece of that puzzle. I think Anisimov can be a piece of that puzzle too but the Hawks have to get the right return..

So what, Anisimov is having a terrible season - so has this team in general with the exception of a few like DeBrincat & Schmaltz... The best thing to do moving forward would be to continue to play the kids, get them the experience, take stock, realize who fits into future plans and who doesn't then take the top 10 or perhaps top 5 pick and draft a stud like Tkachuk. That would be my game plan for the rest of this season and into the summer, and if a trade presents itself and it makes the team better then you do it, but I wouldn't be actively shopping Hartman or Anisimov .... Adding to the existing team should be a priority... I mean when the cap goes up to 80 million the Hawks will have 20 million in cap space - a luxury the Hawks haven't had in years... So it will be interesting to see what Bowman does there.

The only player I would be actively shopping right now would be Seabrook, and I think if Bowman retains 1.5 or 2 million on that contract he will be able to move him..
