Relying on a college player who is yet to play an NHL game is a risky mindset. He could turn into Jimmy Vesey getting plugged on the 4th line. He's not a key piece until he's signed. These moves let the hawks acquire some prospective pieces to refill the cupboard and open up more cap space for more big pieces. I can't see Seabrook being moved at any point. He's the least possible player to be moved. His contract is so bad it'd take a large overpay of prospects that the team can't afford to lose because they're running short on them.
I wouldn't rely on Sikura, but It would be nice to see where he fits on this team (or if he fits).. It would be nice to get a look with what we got in him before the fall so we know what to expect. Sure, he could be a flop, he could also be a stud - we wont know until we sign and play him. Right now he's arguably the best player in college hockey so I'm looking forward to seeing what he can bring.
Trading Hartman and Anisimov for futures doesn't make this team better right now.. The Hawks are a couple of pieces of the puzzle away from being legitimate contenders once again and I think Hartman is a piece of that puzzle. I think Anisimov can be a piece of that puzzle too but the Hawks have to get the right return..
So what, Anisimov is having a terrible season - so has this team in general with the exception of a few like DeBrincat & Schmaltz... The best thing to do moving forward would be to continue to play the kids, get them the experience, take stock, realize who fits into future plans and who doesn't then take the top 10 or perhaps top 5 pick and draft a stud like Tkachuk. That would be my game plan for the rest of this season and into the summer, and if a trade presents itself and it makes the team better then you do it, but I wouldn't be actively shopping Hartman or Anisimov .... Adding to the existing team should be a priority... I mean when the cap goes up to 80 million the Hawks will have 20 million in cap space - a luxury the Hawks haven't had in years... So it will be interesting to see what Bowman does there.
The only player I would be actively shopping right now would be Seabrook, and I think if Bowman retains 1.5 or 2 million on that contract he will be able to move him..
